Financial Aid for Admitted Students

We received the Cornell packet today, but there wasn’t a word about Financial Aid. Is it a separate mailing, or are we out of luck?

From what I read, Cornell will roughly more or less match your EFC with maybe a few adjustments based on the CSS profile. However this accounts for the Family aka Parent’s expected contribution. Each student is expected to contribute, most likely through work study or small loans, 3k a year regardless of family income. This is because Cornell like most ivies which have a similar policy, expect students to at least contribute partially to their education even if their parents can not. Hope that answers your questions Masala, so your parent’s contribution should be safe around ur efc 1100 mark, but you should be prepared to take out 3k a yr in loans yourself and pay some of it off through work study. This is still very reasonable, if you get out of Cornell w/ a 4-year degree w/ only 12k in debt for yourself and none towards your parents, that is considered a win.

collegecondor is correct. Cornell caps the loan amount at 3000 or 7500 depending on your family’s income. They also add the work study portion. The financial aid packets were mailed out Friday so they should arrive early next week.

I live about 3 hours away and got my financial aid letter today, it was way more expensive than anticipated so I’m 98% sure I won’t be attending :(. I hope I can free up a spot for someone else!

@swim…did you do the fin aid calculator?? Was your package different from that?

^i did a long time ago… I feel like Cornell gave me much more loans than I anticipated… But I’m going to redo it and see.

What’s your income?^

I’m assuming everyone else will get ther letter Monday or Tuesday.

I think my parents make about 140K… But they pretty much have no benefits and have to fund their own retirement plans. I still have SUNY Binghamton and Fordham which are affordable options for me. Cornell just isn’t the school for me I suppose.

Thanks guys! I guess we’ll just have to wait and see how it turns out when we get our fin aid letters. Hope it works out for the best

Still waiting for mine… I really really hope it gets here tomorrow.

Guys, I recommend checking your financial aid to do list online and make sure the school has your documents. I have to call them tomorrow.

Meh offered a full ride through HEOP -> Low EFC xP

I checked the to-do list today and saw that I didn’t have my citizenship docs in, but I did not get any email about this and when I checked a week before decisions to make sure everything was in, the website showed no outstanding materials. Would my fin aid be delayed by this because I have not gotten it even today and I only live 5 hours away.
