As my title, I wonder if there are any chances for international student receive financial aid for Senior/PG year. It's important for me because my family can only afford a year in boarding school if I decide to take a challenge in that school. It is also a motivation for me to do better in school.

What schools are you planning on applying and exactly what class?

If you want to apply to boarding school, and cannot afford more than one year, you will have to apply for FA since the very beginning, because if you do not apply for FA the first year, it is not allowed to apply for FA later.

Chances of intl students receiving FA are certainly much less than those Full pay, or native ppl. However, depending on the generosity of the school it may happen. Happened to me this year Extremely good application and being from an underrepresented country helps So, dont give up! Good luck to you!
message me if you have any questions

Thank you. I’m considering to apply as a senior with full pay and then hope for a FA for PG year.

The odds of you going from full pay to FA are pretty low from what I’ve read. In addition, I think you should research whether it’s possible to do a senior year at a school and then a PG year at the same school. Are you a sophomore or a junior now? Can you apply to repeat junior year, and then you will have 2 years at the school?

You can’t go FP the first year and FA the second… You have to apply for FA since the beginning… and I am not so sure whether its possible to continue to PG after senior year. Repeating would be a good idea, but keep in mind, if you do not apply for FA since the beginning… you cant get it later… Anyways, good luck :P

If you only are expecting to get one year of financial aid, apply this year, no matter what. Otherwise, you will only be able to attend on a full pay system. Later, you can always drop the financial aid, or see what the school continues to give you.

the thing is I’m an exchange student this year, the school places me in freshman though I take all senior and junior classes. I was a junior when I left my country. Now, I really have a difficult dilemma between applying as a repeat junior or taking senior year. Two years in a boarding school will strengthen my academic and social skills a lots, but my parents can only afford for year. I know this it late because my program does not allow me to apply while participating. In addition, if I take two years at boarding school, probably I will be in the age of 20 when applying to college. Do you think it’s odd and old?

thank you for your replies. I appreciate them. :)

It wont be odd. There are a lot of people like that. xp

Particularly when coming out of boarding school, there are tons and tons of different age ranges- repeats, PGs, skips, etc. You won’t be alone in your age group, and colleges accept people of all ages, from 16 to adulthood (and that’s normally, without special exceptions). Don’t worry so much about that as figuring out what you need to do now to enjoy the rest of your high school experience, as that will be crucial.

I’m really not sure what to tell you about the financial aid. This is something to discuss with your parents and the schools. You’ll need to do research and really figure out how to go about this situation. It’s unique and may need some special consideration in admissions and where you apply. Additionally, this may be the time, if it fits with your family, to talk to relatives and/or look for outside support/scholarships. Different options, like finding a less-expensive fit closer to home, or finding a government scholarship might be useful to look into, but no one on here is going to be able to tell you exactly how to go about this, as it is so personal and unique.

Thank for your replies. They motivates me very much.
