So I've got some questions about financial aid , I know there are schools like need blind and provide you all the money you need , but they are just like 6 for internationals students D: So like other schools would give you the money you need but that would decrease your possibilities to get in cause financial aid for international students is limited ? I'd need a 40k help a year , which is sort of a lot , cause I can pay just up to 8k a year ** And if I apply for that and they get me in , they will give me that help ??

Penny, there are about six schools that are BOTH need blind for admissions (meaning they don’t consider your finances when considering your admissions application) that ALSO meet full need for all accepted international students.

There are a number of other schools that are need aware for international students but do meet full need for those who are accepted.

The bigger question regards how competitive you are for admission to these schools that meet full need. They are very competitive for all applicants but even moreso for international applicants.

Need based financial aid is based on family income and assets. Would you qualify for need based aid? The schools compute your need based on the financial information you send to them.

One thing to remember: all of these schools calculate your need based on your financial aid application and the documentation you provide. They don’t just give you whatever you say you need. So it’s possible, even if you’re admitted, that a “full need” school might decide you need less than $40k. I’m not saying it will happen, but you need to be aware that it’s a possibility.

And, yes, “need aware” schools will take your financial need into consideration when deciding whether or not to admit you. So if you have significant need, that will make it more difficult to be admitted because, as you say, their financial aid budget (for both U.S. and international students) is limited.

There are many threads on this issue, especially in the International Students forum. I’d suggest that you go there, and scroll down to find them. One poster to watch for is b@r!um. She has very good ideas on ways to identify the colleges and universities that are most likely to give you the aid that you would need.

top private colleges in general will strive to meet full or near-full aid for international applicants with stats well above their average.I was fortunate enough to be one of those students, but generally it’s a crapshoot. Colleges like internationals precisely because they’re not entitled to any financial help, so you’ve got to be pretty good.
