Financial Aid for PhD Students in EE

I was admitted into the electrical engineering MS/PHD track (NOT the terminal masters program). The e-mail stated that financial aid decisions will be given before April 15. Do most incoming PhD EE students at Stanford receive some form of financial assistance? I'd sincerely appreciate any advice or feedback.

I know some engineering PhDs but most of the grad students I know are Political Science PhDs. My impression is that most people get extensive financial assistance if they need it for PhD programs, such that the PhD is basically free…with of course Research Assistantships and Teaching Assistantships. You also I think get a stipend for food and such…its a pretty good deal being a PhD student at Stanford. I think this is the case with most PhD programs actually, so Im not sure why youre asking or why Stanford would be different.

i.e. I know someone doing a joint JD, PhD at Stanford and only has to pay for one semester of law school in total (and can get both in 5 years!) because his PhD stipend and scholarships are paying for his law school tuition…its pretty sweet…
