My senior will be attending college in the fall. His 13 year old brother has significant special needs…are there financial aid supports available because of this? Thanks for any help!
If his special needs require ongoing expenses that a typical family would not have, you can appeal to each school’s financial aid office to ask if they will consider them. They can’t be reimbursed by insurance, and they must be necessary (rather than choices that the family makes). Whether or not to consider them is up to each school, and consideration may or may not make a difference in aid, depending on the overall financial situation. In other words, it’s worth a try.
Thank you!
I hope it works out for you. My niece has a special needs child, and they have a lot of expenses related to his challenges.
Definitely a special circumstance. We wrote about medical expenses for one of our kids and they did adjust the aid. Document well. Good luck!
We are in a similar situation. 14 year old brother has very significant medical and developmental needs.
