Financial aid for transfer students?

I was accepted as a transfer student for Fall 2010, just waiting on the financial aid offer before I commit. I'm kind of worried that I won't be able to afford it, based on awards from other schools this year. When I applied for freshman admissions, my family contribution (at schools other than Yale) was around $10k (at Tufts, Villanova, etc). However, on the offers I've received from Penn and Wesleyan this year, my parents are expected to pay over $30k.

I know that Yale is usually extremely generous, but my experience with other schools is leading me to believe that transfer students get kind of hung out to dry in the aid process. Any thoughts?

Y treats transfers just like they do fr admits for FA. When my D1 transferred, Amherst, Brown and Dartmouth all said we qualified for zero FA, while Y gave us over 22k in grants plus 2.5 WS.

As long as your family’s financial situation hasn’t changed radically, you should be OK.

Thanks Entomom! That’s a sizable difference in awards!

We saw the same types differences during fr admissions, but less dramatic because that was the year before HYPS changed their FA policies for mid to upper income families.
