Financial Aid Notifications

Broadway,

Was your award in form of a grant (need based) or a merit award via Villanova scholarship?

Grant (need based)

Congratulations to all those receiving great financial aid packages! I have to admit that our package from Villanova was more generous than I thought it would be. At this point I think my son has decided on Notre Dame as their financial aid package was more generous and would leave him (and us!) a little less in debt. We are still waiting to hear the RD decision on Yale but are not counting on it as that was his “stretch” school.

Good luck to all on making such an important decision!

@Joann1965

Interesting, I was also accepted to Notre Dame and Villanova and my Villanova package was actually quite a bit better, except a tad more debt. Good luck on your son’s decision from Yale!

i got in but i dont know how to set up my account

Our FA notice was finally populated today. All loans - no grants or scholarships (surprising considering our offers from other Catholic schools). It’s VillaNOva for us as well.

if i got 30,000 in the villanova grant per year (need based)
do i get that same 30,000 every year? or is the villanova grant over the span of 4 years?

Very disappointed on aid only $2,000 grant and our EFC was $30k. What are the EFCs of people who received aid? Very curious.

Our EFC was approx. $18,000 and my daughter got a $25,000 grant. I do not consider this great aid because my oldest daughter (sophmore) at Lehigh gets approx $31,000. And to top it off the one who got $18,000 at Villanova, is being give $38,260 if she attends Lehigh (and Villanova’s costs are slighly higher). We were also told that our first daughter’s aid will go up to about the same as her sister’s for next year. I want her to go where she wants but it is hard not to push for Lehigh. Lehigh for us truly follows the EFC.

Need based grants are for that year only. Next year you have to file fasa and css again and the number could change but if your finances are the same won’t change by much. If anything it should increase since costs go up but many salaries do not.

Returning student so no award yet for this year.

2010-2011 COA was $53,150
EFC = 21224
VU Grant = 20030
Work Study = 3000
Sub Loan = 3500
Unsub Loan = 2000

2011-2012 COA was $54,500
EFC = 35359
VU Grant = 10920
WS = 3000
Sub Loan = 4500
Unsub Loan = 2000

So Lehighmother, assuming that your D was also offered Stafford loans and work study, your gap is around $3400, similar to our freshman year gap. Not sure what to make of ctmom3’s student’s FA offer.
