So we received financial aid information and it only stated one direct subsidized loan. All other schools showed two direct loans, subsidized and unsubsidized. I called this school’s fin. Aid office and they said they dont report that. When i asked why they said you can request that information but they dont want kids graduating with too much debt. As everyone knows the two loans combine to 5500 dollars. Here is my question, by law are they not supposed to inform you of the federal loans available to you?
As far as I know they are not required. Our packages have never included unsubsidized loans. However, since you filled out the FAFSA you should be entitled to borrow up to the limit allowed each year. I am not sure if it is required that you have need (COA-EFC) in order to be able to borrow. If want the unsubidized loans, you probally just need to call/email the FA office and ask for the loans to be added to your package.
I actually believe that they are trying not to encourge borrowing.
