Hello,
I was just hoping that someone could enlighten me on what the financial aid situation is like for OOS people of Low to Lower Middle class income.
Sorry if this is asked every other day, but a Google search didnt reveal much besides the BC website
Yes, run the NPC as it was spot on for me. And just to throw in some other perspective, I personally found BC to be very generous and my family is solidly middle class with slightly above-average home equity.
@edgeook8 Do you mind sharing how your need was met by BC? We have done the net price calculator and have about $35,000 in need. If that is met with loans vs grant, BC is out of reach for us.
It depends. BC counts home equity as an asset in the calculation of need, which is what is a decrement to those in the lower middle class (‘house poor’). For those with no/low equity, financial aid can be pretty good. Sure, not as generous as the Ivies and their ilk, but then no other college is either.
@RelocatedYankee — it was nearly all grants with a small loan ($2,500 or so). I got $44k in aid overall which is approximately what the net price calculator predicted. That said, I know of others who said that it was not so spot on. Hopefully you will find it to be a close match in your case.
Hi RelocatedYankee. How were you notified of financial aid? We have not received anything to date and wondering if you received something in the mail or email? If email, please share to ensure I am looking in the correct area. Thank you for any insight.
No we are patiently waiting for the financial information. I regularly check the site referenced in the acceptance letter. Can’t come too soon for those of us that need the numbers to make a choice. Good luck ParentBC2022
The people that complain about financial aid at BC are usually those that are upper middle class that are just on the cusp of making too much money to get money, but not being able to afford $70k/year. I am lower middle class and BC became my cheapest school, even cheaper than my in state public schools+scholarships. Even with small business owner and rental property supposedly screwing up the NPC, ours came out very accurate and my cost is about $15k/year direct to BC, with a few thousand added in for indirect expenses.
@ParentBC2022@RelocatedYankee I’m pretty sure my aid package came around January 20th last year, so you will probably get yours soon. Good luck on your decision!
