MSU does cost but it is a fantastic place. I have been out there many, many times since I was 5 years old and our school took us to see the baby cows. I have seen the museums, football games, musical shows, and I am very proud that my son is out there. My only regret was that I couldn't attend MSU myself so I am definitely not complaining.

I don't understand how MSU can give such little financial aid to top students. I received full rides at higher ranked schools, yet NOTHING from MSU.

well. i have to pay by all loans with no help from parents. and their income was 4.5k for 2007 with an EFC of 0. i need as much fin aid as i can get. i wonder how much. im giving a call tom.

You guys really need to practice some patience. Last year my son got his scholarship from MSU in late April and then got an assistance grant after that

Shyanne, had your son accepted before he received the scholarship? I'm just wondering because my son really wanted to go to MSU and they offered him about 1600 in grants and the rest in loans. U of M offered him a 40,000 (over 4 years) scholarship. He's making his decision this week - but he also says there's really no decision to make.

Yes, my son was accepted in the fall of 2006 and he got a scholarship in April of last year but it was a smaller scholarship. I think the really, really big scholarships are given out from the ADS competition.

Why is he making his decision so soon?

Jfactor, sorry, I read your question wrong. Yes, my son only applied to MSU (no other colleges) and had let them know he was attending MSU before he got the scholarship.

Shyanne, I think U of M has been generous with their offer (so far;-) we'd like more - but who doesn't want more? I really wish MSU would have offered him something that would have made his choice a little more challenging.
Thanks for the info about your son and the fact that he received more aid well into April. I didn't know that there was a chance more scholarships might come.

There are chances for scholarships and grants every year, even after you are attending. I think that goes for most colleges.
