Went out today (or at least mine did)

$7,000 in loans. Boo!

But my Michigan Promise scholarship and Michigan Competitive Scholarship (which I should be eligible for) didn't appear. Did any one else's?

You have to graduate from high school first to get those scholarships! Your financial aid package may change a few times before you go to MSU.

Did you view it online or receive it in the mail (the fin aid package)?

Haha oh yeah forgot about that graduating thing.

The michigan promise scholarship should still appear I think. All the aid you’d be receiving is given under the assumption that you will graduate. My aid package from michigan lists the promise scholarship (no letter from state yet though) so I don’t see why state wouldn’t list it.

Hmm… that’s odd. Well, I sent an email asking, but no response yet. I’m kind of aggravated at State’s financial aid office right now though :(.

I just got mine yesterday, it didn’t list the MI promise scholarship either. Weird. I guess we have to first send in the forms we were mailed? (the ones from the MI government)

But damn was my aid package bad… over $14k in loans, 3k employment, $4200 grants.
Even if I add in $2k from national merit and $1k from the MME, that’s still over $44k debt when I graduate, assuming it stays mostly the same.

What was really surprising was that even umich, where i got deferred at first, gave me more. 6k loans, 15k in grants/scholarships.

svtcobra-
D had the same thing happen-better fin. aid from UM. Curious. Where are you going?

Since MSU is out of the question now, I’m choosing between Michigan and Wayne State Univ where I have a full ride (if you’re not from SE michigan you probably haven’t heard of this one).

Hopefully Michigan though. I’m debating whether or not it would be worth taking loans for undergrad :P

The financial aid packages are not final, as I just discovered.

For those who qualify for the Spartan Advantage Program, they won’t receive their updated packages until June-ish. That may apply to some other aid as well.
