Financial Aid - Parental Contribution if Income <$40,000?

Will Yale move towards the step Harvard is taking and not require any parental contribution if a student's family income is below $40,000 a year?

hmm...well, Yale's endowment is certainly nowhere near Harvard's $22 billion. I believe Yale's is somewhere around $13 billion...so Yale can't afford to give up as much of its money like Harvard can. However, seeing how Harvard's new fin aid plan attracted a very high number of applicants this year, Yale might possibly move in the same direction, only with a less generous plan.

eh, is there really that big a difference between $14 billion and $22 billion? Both have a lot of zeros after them...

in terms of endowment per full time student, yale and harvard are about the same. so yale should be able to afford it, if it weren't for so much capital improvement and renovations...

Yeah, they seem to like importing marble and building nice, fancy [expensive] buildings

Then again, that's why they're Yale :)

Any idea when Yale will announce its finaid reforms?

You can keep abreast of this issue by checking out the Yale Daily News online. It's been a big focus of campus activity in the last few weeks. I would expect some changes for the better this spring, in time for next year. Just how extensive those changes will be remains to be seen.

well the yale daily news makes the finaid situation look pretty dire
