Financial aid qualification

i am 20 years old and currently trying to enrol into college. Both parents have been deceased since 2007. i have no direct contact with my lega guardian and is wondering if there is another way for me to qualify for financial aid. Any help on what process should i take?

If both parents are deceased, you are an independent for FA purposes. Just fill out the FAFSA and answer the questions. The information for legal guardians is not needed (although if you are 20, you no longer have a legal guardian).

So sorry to hear that you’ve lost both of your parents.

You fill out FAFSA as independent. There will be questions and the fact that your parents are deceased will qualify you. You may be asked later to provide copies of their death certs.

You will qualify for aid, but maybe not enough. What state are you a resident? Hopefully your state has aid as well.

What school are you looking at? (Or schools)

i have completed the fafsa as independent but there is a road block with tax information. I have never filed my taxes before. i am a resident in Florida and is hoping to attend Florida A&M University or Florida Atlantic University.

Legal guardianship ended at 18. How have you supported yourself since you are 18? Did you have employment over the last two years? If you’ve been staying with relatives or friends, you will include that information as part of your special circumstances.

How are you supporting yourself? Do you have a job with income?
