Hi all,

I'm applying to Columbia ED but had a question about its financial aid policy. If I get it in, I understand that I'd have to withdraw all my applications and accept Columbia's offer. However, if their financial aid package isn't enough, do I find out about my other early applications, namely MIT and UChicago?

In summation, if Columbia releases me for financial reasons from the Early Decision agreement, can I find out my results for other schools or does an acceptance to Columbia completely restrict me from finding out anything about the others?

Thanks.

If you accept Columbia’s offer, you MUST immediately withdraw the other pending applications and acceptances.

If you do NOT accept Columbia’s offer, you then decline that offer immediately and move on to your other schools. You are DONE with Columbia in that case.

You will not be in the position to compare financial aid offers with Columbia still in the mix.

thumper1 is correct. If you decide you cannot attend Columbia because of financial reasons, they will release you and you are free to pick another school, but you can’t accept Columbia’s offer at a later date. There’s no comparing, which makes ED less than ideal for someone who needs a lot of FA/the most FA possible, but Columbia is really generous if you’re in that position. If your family makes less than $60k/yr and has “typical assets” (as they call it) you’ll get a full ride. Best of luck in the admissions game.
