hi just a couple of questions

i recently logged in, and binghamton took away my BU Foundation Scholarship, canceled my loans, lowered my Perkins Loan, and gave me the Esther Couper Scholarship. i’m not complaining since i’m actually receiving a lot more money than they were giving me before, but i just wanted to know will i be getting this Esther Couper Scholarship throughout my 4 years at bing? or will i suddenly be 8k in debt the next year?

also, i have an outside scholarship from the UFT that’s supposed to come in. when it does, will it be listed in my package? the way this scholarship is supposed to work is that it will pay my loans off for me. if i’m getting a $1,250 scholarship this way, does that mean i’ll be getting $1000 back in my own hands after it pays off my perkins loan?

thanks in advance!

Are those the actual terms of the scholarship? If so, it seems it would only pay your Perkins loans for this year and the question you might ask the UFT is if the balance can be applied in subsequent years. If not, then my guess is that your SEOG and (perhaps your TAP award, not sure if this is an entitlement or not) will be reduced if you’re already at full COA. If you anticipate having extraordinary transportation or book/supply expenses, you could ask the FA folks if it’s possible to increase your COA. Btw, it looks like you’ll likely end up owing taxes next year on the portion of your scholarships that exceed tuition, fees, and course materials (in excess of your standard deduction)…just keep that in mind if they do give you a refund:(

your financial aid status is really way to important to rely on an anonymous message board such as this – call the financial aid office and make sure you completely understand everything about your aid and this new scholarship.
