Financial Aid Verification?

Has anyone been notified yet by UNC that they need to send in documents for FAFSA and/or CSS Profile verification?

D was selected by another school she's considering, so I'm assuming that UNC will also want all the stuff. If we go into the myUNC site to check her financial aid status, we get a server error, and she hasn't been notified by email yet, so we're assuming they don't want anything (yet).

If you've been selected for verification already by UNC, how did they let you know?

I get internal server error too. Maybe they are currently updating and they have it offline until they get them all updated.

they e-mailed me last year I believe…don’t remember for sure.

The process wasn’t too bad, just had to make copies of all the documents I used to fill out fafsa and send them in

why do they ask for verifications? do the ask for verification from the people who will be eligible for need-based scholarships or what? haha i’m a little unsure of how things go or what they mean so any help would be amazing.

they randomly request this stuff from applicants to verify that you are putting correct information on your application and not stating your income was lower than what your W2’s reported.

ohhh. i see. so not everyone is going to have to send that stuff in? regardless of their eligibility for need-based scholarships?

no, you submit FAFSA and CSS PROFILE online. Then out of all the applicants, I guess 10-15 % are randomly selected to submit documentation. Then u send copies of everything ASAP…I got this done to me last year. It wasnt bad, but it was annoying b/c my parents are clueless about this stuff and I had to go home to do it…its really simple…go to Office Depot, make a copy of pretty much EVERYTHING and send it to them.

oh ok. yeah i submitted that stuff in february and i havent gotten emails or anything asking for this stuff so i guess im good. thanks so much for clearing that up!

Finally got through online and it said the application was complete, so yay! no verification at this school. The random sample must be done separately by each school…I thought it was FAFSA determined.
