Financial aid???

How much have people been getting with an income of 90,000 or more? I got $5,000, but at a private school that’s almost nothing so I can’t go :(

momomomo - Are you asking for a family with an AGI of 90K? It would also depend on if the family had assets, home equity, and how many other siblings are in college at the same time.

I assume the $5000 was a scholarship or a need based grant? That would seem somewhat in line with what I have heard if the family has one student in college and an AGI of 90K or so. Maybe a tad low but not amazingly so. You are pointing out the problem for middle class families…while 90K is a healthy income for a family, most families can not pull 40-50K of cash from that income each year to put straight to college costs…it only works if the family also has significant savings to utilize, which is most often not the case.

Yes, it’s the middle class conundrum :(

Less than generous SCU! Only loans offered. Someone else can get the spot offered to my DS.

I feel like a total noob but what is DS?

DS=Dear Son, DD=Dear Daughter

on my online account on the SCU cite, the award letter is under the financial aid tab when I log in. Click view the award and it should be there. Also make sure you have submitted the FAFSA and CSS Profile.

Is SCU having financial trouble? My D got merit awards everywhere else and nothing from SCU other than an offer of loans. The gap is so huge that it is hard to justify going there.

nwtree,
Sometimes I think it is the luck of the draw, or just something about a particular student that a particular school wants. We have the “large gap” situation at Fordham; even with a large merit award it is out of reach so we asked them for more aid. They said they will reconsider and let us know next week. On the other hand, Santa Clara gave my S both a large merit scholarship AND a sizable need based grant. (Yet an even lower ranked Jesuit University gave him merit but no need based grants, only loans.)

However his offer from USC is even better so that is his current first choice.

We are thankful to have options.
