We got our FA package today and it’s not looking too hot. How common is it to appeal to the FA office? Likewise, how successful is an appeal? It looks like if nothing changes I will have to take out significant student loans. Thanks for your responses

Appeals are common and often successful. It is especially useful if you have received a more generous aid package from a different school. Google financial aid at EphBlog for lots of relevant discussion.
