if i were to apply ED, would the financial aid package be the same if i applied RD?

also, i looked on the website but couldnt find how/how much they expect divorced households to pay. like do they just add up all the assets and figure from there or do they factor in less for the parent you dont live with, or something?

what i mean when i ask about the divorced parent situation is that I live with my mom and my brother and she makes like $40,000. but then my dad lives in vegas and i dont know how much he makes but it is more than what my mom makes. also he isnt really good with managing money so hes got alot of assets but i think he just charges it and pays off credit cards and such. gow would the financial aid people look at it because id like to apply ED but i dont want a terrible financial aid package.

also, im mexican so would that help me out?

Columbia will consider your father's assets as well (sorry!). If there is some unusual circumstance in place, they may reconsider, but odds are they will not. Whether your father pays child support or not (and even if the divorce documents specifically state that your mother is to pay for your education) he is expected to contribute to your college education.

. . . and the fact that you're Mexican won't make any difference, either.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. I know it seems like a double edged sword: having a better chance of getting in ED but then being stuck; or having the smaller chance of getting in and having flexibility.

Good luck whatever you decide to do!
