Financial Aid

How good is HC with financial aid? I will be applying to Amherst (which I know has excellent financial aid), but I don't think I will be able to get in.

Are scholorships given by HC? Is there a financial calculator like AMherst's website that I could use?

After using Amherst's calculator, I was estimated a $15K scholarship. Anybody have any idea what I could get from HC?

How good is HC with financial aid?

You realize this is relative, right? You can have 2 families that make the exact income and are asked to pay the same tuition and still get different responses. One may realize that whatever tuition is worth the price and another may have parents that feel that 5 or 40,000 isn't worth it. For example, although my parents are 1st generation immigrants and were only above middle class, for 10 years, they did not buy any luxury goods for themselves, lived in a more modest home and did not go on any extravagant vacations so the kids could go to Bryn Mawr, Swat and HC. The tuition they paid would make most people's hair turn white, but to them, any finacial aid was "good".

With a bigger endowment, Amherst on average spends a little more on financial aid than HC but each college has its own aid formula. Although Swat has a much bigger endowment as well, I actually got a little more from HC than Swat... not the deal breaker, but it was still nice.

Good luck with your applications. As a side note, if you haven't even applied to Amherst yet feel that you won't be accepted, HC will be a reach as well. The difference between 19% and 24% is smaller than appears.
