Financial Aid?

My parents declared bankruptcy in 2005, they can't co-sign loans and my brother had to drop out of college b/c he couldn't get loans on his credit and my parents couldn't help him. My biological father owes me $70,000 in past due child support. Do I have an EFC of 0? No.

FA forms do not provide an opportunity to discuss your life story. Once you have your financial aid package you can use this information to appeal to the financial office if your award won't work.

Unfortunately...the world of college financial aid isn't fair...but if you want a higher education...it's just something we have to work out. And trust me, it all works out in the end.

Sorry, I meant EFC of 1400, had to pay around 5000. We had a like 90k home, an 8k car, family of 4 with just me in college. I do wish they gave me more money, since we were at the point where we had to take out loans to pay for living expenses.

But Cornell EFC is supposed to change with circumstance. Next year my sister will be in college, and I have a baby sister now, so I hope I get a little more help this year.

Even with 0 EFC, you aren't exactly entitled to a free ride. Your Cornell EFC will probably be low but not zero, and they'll probably expect you to make up the difference through work and outside loans.

Myarmin: your EFC should have a nice decrease. My 1st year at Cornell my EFC was $17,000...when my bro went to college it went down to $9,600...of course, when my bro dropped out of college after his 1st year my EFC went up to $15,900.
