Well I applied for Financial Aid with my ED application for Hopkins. I know that Hopkins is "need-blind" so to speak when it comes to applicants. However, I am wondering, if you are in need of a lot of aid, will it drastically lower your chances of getting in (especially in this type of economy)? The problem is I would not be able to afford Hopkins and some people I've talked to have stated being in need of financial assistance reduces your chances quite a bit.

Need-blind means that your need for financial aid will not affect your admissions decision, so you’ve answered your own question.

I know it’s a done deal at this point, and I hate to give you another thing to worry about, but it’s not a good idea to apply ED if you cannot afford Hopkins. You’re bound to Hopkins if you’re accepted, regardless of the size of your financial aid package. If the aid they give you is not enough for you to afford Hopkins, even with the help, you’re kind of screwed.

Well, since Hopkins is my first choice I WOULD be willing to take a student loan for it if needed but again that would be quite a bill to pay off since my parents cannot afford it.

There is nothing to be concerned about. When the Admissions Committee reviews your ED application, the fact that you applied for financial aid and your “need” is not information that is factored in.
