Financial aid

how is the financail aid? my moms income is 12,000 and my child support is 1000/month so total income is 24.000 per year. I don't really want to get tied up in loans. Also, are they expecting me to use all of my child support for college because then my mom won't survive.

u should get pretty good financial aid.....but w/ the weird formulas college offices use, u never know....so my 2 cents---apply to lots of scholarships!!! look them up at fastweb.com and don't think u wont win, cause chances are u prob will.....it sure helped me.....more than i would like it to have (b/c i won too many, cornell used my scholarships to cut the university grants....bumsss...but i still have to contribute parents contribution, students assetsa and summer savings expectation- the latter which is a set amount for all students 2060)....
hope this helped!

yeah seriously. overall cornell aid is good, but they don't bas your efc from your fafsa.... it's kind of weird...

I think Cornell is pretty generous. I don't know what they'll do with the child support, but if you explained your situation, I'm sure they'd negotiate (they did with me). The people are understanding and helpful (from my experience), so I think you should get pretty good financial aid.

they look at each rents income is what i read, and they charge both (individually?) but in the case your father doesn't have any custody maybe that's a different story. call FA and ask them, they're the only ones who can answer your question accurately unless someone on this forum has been in a very similar or identical situation. Considering only like 5 current students post regularly, your chances of that being the case are low. Call, they won't bite. More than any other divison for the applicant, FA is there to help, ya know?

Don't worry about getting stiffed for FA, if cornell didn't give out enough for students who needed it to keep attending, they'd see a big dropout rate, and they'd be shooting themselves in the foot in terms of rankings. It's a symbiotic relationship: giving enough FA helps you attend and learn, but it also keeps you from dropping out for monetary reasons and lowering their rank.
