ok. here's the story: I know this professor at St. Olaf College. She said they had a faculty meeting about financial issues, endowment losses, etc of the college and as a comparison she was told that Middlebury cut all international programs. I find this completely absurd but find nothing about their budget issues anywhere on the website or via google search.

I am thinking this was a distractor of discussion for St Olaf (as in we don't have it nearly as bad) but at the same time, Dartmouth is readily admitting to cutting 40 million next year. Has anyone heard about substantial cuts to programs?

As someone currently abroad with a Middlebury int'l program, I can't imagine them cutting all of them. In fact, I know that they're opening up a new program in China next year...

I think either the professor misunderstood what was said, or the person leading the discussion was misinformed. None of Middlebury's international programs have been cut.

I'm pretty sure I know the source of the confusion. Middlebury had scheduled two winter term study courses in Nepal and London. The college recently cut these two classses. More here:

We're talking English Professor so yes, there could have easily been a misunderstanding as she is really brilliant, but a tad flighty. :) The link explains a lot and I will actually forward that info. As we tried to say, it seems absurd that Middlebury would make huge cuts to their hallmark programs. Thanks so much for the info. Greatly appreciated.

It is true Middlebury has made some budget cuts but they are hardly of the severity you describe - more like reducing travel expenses for staff by 10%, for example.
