Finding an on-campus job?

<p>Hey everyone. So how do people go about finding on campus jobs at Columbia? is there a website with listings, or something? Also, are work hours generally flexible and how much do they usually pay? What kinds of on-campus jobs are there?</p>

<p>I’d be willing to bet that 90% of the on-campus jobs that an undergrad is eligible for are work-study. Columbia does have a website where local people post things though. Babysitting, petsitting, tutoring, etc mostly from UWS or UES residents. I’m too lazy to actually find it right now but if you go on the career services website i think it’s something like ‘Temp Time’ or something similar.</p>

<p>Really, the best money to be made while you’re in school is with freelancing. Tutoring, translation, and tech work all pay very well and have plenty of willing clients in the city.</p>

<p>There are translation opportunities around school? I looked far and wide last year but they went to graduate students (and greedy TAs).</p>

And thanks for taking the time to post those links Denzera, but I went through most of them already… they do not provide information I was looking for and two of them just redirected me to the “Helpful Columbia Threads” jobs section which i said was not useful.</p>

<p>1) your initial question is overly broad. on-campus jobs means A LOT of things. there is work-study, there are jobs you work out of your bedroom, those are ‘on-campus’ of sorts. there is what i think they call casual work - for people not on financial aid. </p>

<p>3) then there is the CCE website as a whole. that does have ‘temp jobs’ that you can grab that have as i mentioned like working remotely, or babysitting. </p>

<p>4) casual jobs usually you get by going to the department. some people i know worked as shelvers in the library or swipe cards in dorms. you get these by asking the departments associated with them. as far as i know there isn’t one registry for these jobs.</p>

<p>5) jobs vary from department to department, but there is tons to be had. the longer you work, usually you get a raise.</p>

<p>6) your attitude in post this afternoon is completely unnecessary. your initial question was very bad because honestly it really could be covered in most of the threads. what you really wanted to know is “where is the listing of jobs;” to which the answer is, it depends on what kind of job you are looking for. if it is casual, i dont think you will find it, it is by going to the department and asking if they are hiring. if it is work study, you apply for those jobs only if you have work study. if it is other on campus stuff, you have to either apply for a job or work with a 3rd party.</p>

<p>I’m not…made for tutoring or teaching in general. I joined a tutoring center after my freshman year back home for kids passing their SATs and I left after 3 weeks. Good money; kids just tend to be unresponsive to being told to stop being stupid which was an innate go-to for me.</p>

<p>EVeryone I knew worked in the library. I worked in the cafeteria in the back–I needed the free meals.</p>

<p>Seriously? That could save me some bucks. I don’t care what anyone says- they’ve got cereal, an ice cream bar, and amazing waffles.</p>

<p>Unless it’s ridiculously easy and expected of every worker there. But then again I guess you also only get access on days/hours on which you work.</p>
