Hi everyone! I am currently a junior in high school dual enrolled at a local community college. As of right now, I am on the nursing track and am set to finish all of the prerequisites needed for nursing by the end of my senior year in high school. In order to get into the nursing program at the University of Florida (my top school), the following courses must successfully be completed:
-3 credits of social and behavioral science
-3 credits of physical or biological sciences
-Anatomy & Physiology One: 4 Credits (including a lab component)
-Anatomy & Physiology Two: 4 Credits (including a lab component)
-Microbiology: 4 Credits (including a lab component)
-Statistics: 3 Credits
-Human Growth and Development or Developmental Psychology: 3 Credits
-Human Nutrition: 3 Credits
-Epidemiology Recommended, not Required.
As previously mentioned, I am on the right track to knocking all of these out of the way before senior year ends, with the exception of Epidemiology. However, I am actually concerned about this. The University of Florida states:
“Students who have an AA degree from a dual enrollment program, including the majority of prerequisite courses for the Traditional BSN program, will be permitted, if admitted to UF as Freshman, to apply for admission to the upper division nursing major during the Spring Semester of their Freshman year. Students meeting these requirements must work with the College of Nursing Undergraduate Advisor to develop an academic plan of at least 12 credit hours in each of the Fall and Spring Semesters of their Freshman year. This plan should include completion of all required nursing prerequisite courses.”
If I already finish the prerequisites, how will this work? It says that I must have 12 credit hours during the Fall and Spring Semesters of Freshman year, but what if I already have all the hours I need due to my dual credits? Will I potentially have to apply as a transfer student? Is it even possible to get in with my situation? I am under the impression that completing my prerequisites before I even enter university will harm me more than it will help me. I already emailed UF regarding my concern, but they have yet to reply. Help or any knowledge on the matter is very much appreciated. Thank you all, and I hope you have a wonderful day!
