Today during my SAT the fire alarm went off and we were evacuated for 30 minutes, this was during the first section, the essay. I thought for sure the test was going to get cancelled since everyone had now had a chance to discuss, but it wasn't cancelled. Was this legal or should it have been cancelled?

well its the essay ..

it would be so easy for people to cheat if it was during a regular section. However....you obviously still had an advantage because you had 30 extra minutes to formulate your ideas.....which is A LOT more than what you should be getting

w/e..i hope you took advantage and wrote a great essay =)

Also, my test procter didn't recheck people's ids so it would have been very easy to switch positions with someone.

Mixed situation, could also be a disadvantage: firebell jangles peoples' nerves, derails their thoughts.
but, as cory said, the breather is a rare treat, once you recover from the shock of it all.

If the students had any opportunity to page through the MC's, even casually, and then the firebell rang, some could've discussed it outside.

essay is first section always

and hey, no fair for all those kids who timed their drugs so carefully!
