First author publications process?

I will be a freshman at Tech and I know they are very predominant in undergrad research. Can someone please walk me through the process on how to release a first author publication? Your help will be utmost appreciated.

  1. Do some research
  2. Analyze the results and reach meaningful conclusions
  3. Write a paper
  4. Identify journals that would be relevant to your topic
  5. Read their submission guidelines. Fix your paper to meet them.
  6. Submit it.

You are getting waayyyyy ahead of yourself. In real life, your “first author publication” is more likely to be a ‘middle of the list of authors publication’, in which you assist your professor/grad student and get some credit for it. Don’t worry: by the time you have your own research ready to publish you will know how to do it.
