My honors lit teacher told us that we'd have a times essay based on the summer assignment we did on HTRLLAP...and he's the hardest lit teacher in my whole school, probably. I talked with some juniors who had him last year, and basically almost everyone did horribly. Like one guy who got a 220 on the PSAT as a freshman got a ~75 on the first essay (this is a sophomore lit class), and he actually got one of the highest grades in the class. Everyone else got around 60-70, and I'm not sure if anyone got an A...I have no idea what to expect as I just got through the first week of school and the teacher didn't give any instruction whatsoever on this essay. I looked at the grading scale/rubric but it just gave general info that doesn't really help me. I'd like to think that there's something I can do to prepare myself, but at this point I'm pretty sure I'm screwed, and there's nothing I can do about it. So yeah, any magic advice?

If everyone pretty much without a doubt always gets a bad grade on it, if you also get a bad grade on it, it’s fine. I’ve had a ton of teachers tell my classes before, “If you do badly at first, don’t worry. If you study hard, you’ll get better.”

That said, make sure you have a clearly defined thesis, two-three examples for each point, good transitions, and a nice little conclusion. That’s pretty much what makes a good essay.

I never thought a stupid English class would turn out to be harder than AP world, AP Compsci, etc etc
