Is anyone of you first generation? I am. Is it really help?

I am, and when I visited Amherst College for their Diversity Open House, they said really emphasized it in the admissions process, especially if your transcript and test scores aren't flawless. Hopefully, Columbia is so generous.

how would one emphasize it?..i really dont want to write an essay about it..i dont want my essays to be about any of that..rather just me..weirdo girl.no heh anyway yeah how would u emphasize it?

I didn't mean that the applicant should emphasize it. I meant that admissions committees use it as a "plus factor" like they'd use gender, race, geography, etc.

o okie..soo they check all that?..i didnt know that..

I am too.

Rj. Hi. Did you apply ED???

what classifies as first generation?

Anxious1, I applied EA to Harvard and RD to Columbia.

"First generation" probably means neither your parents, grandparents, etc. have attended college.

what bout some w/e college in like bangladesh?

Yeah, my Dad went to college in France and grad school in the USA but I'll be the first person in my family to go to COLLEGE in the USA. Does that count?

no that does not count....
