What effect will being a first generation American/college student have on my college apps? Will there be any impact on how admissions view my application? Thanks!
It gives you a small advantage at some schools.

Each college will decide how much of a bump, if any, it will give. There is no question on the app that says: Check here if you are a first generation college student. You simply list your parent(s)’ education, and the college will do with that info whatever it wishes.
i know some schools will even waive your application fee if you’re a first generation student. brown and bowdoin come to mind.
