First Set of College Visits-Is "Meeting with Dept. Rep" an interview?

riverrunner, I'm confused. We've only been through one interview so far, but parents were not welcome during their conversation. I thought that was typical. Do interviews often involve parents as well as the students?

Oh, sorry, I just re-read your post. Never mind!

Guess I need coffee.

Yeah, these were billed as informational meetings and not as interviews....of the three schools we visited, I think only one even does interviews. Of course, since this was a chance we had been given to ask questions, I DID ask questions...the student has never been to college before...unless you tell them, they don't know to ask questions like how many courses are taught by TAs because they have no way of even knowing what that is.

^^ Exactly! Also, more than once, especially at small LACs, the standard info session/tour is often one on one, and can end up in the finaid office for a private conversation with a finaid person. This can be very confusing for a high school junior who (even with perfect SATs) may not be up on grants, scholarships, WUE (and other out-of-state tuition waiver) programs, on-site tests which might result in merit aid, and so on. I think it's fine for the adult/parent to lead this conversation, since they'll be paying the bill, in most cases.
