I'm a sophomore this year, and I'm going to definitely take one AP at least this year, APWH (I'm taking the class as well). My other course load is easy.

Should I also try to self-study APHG and APES? I think that Human Geography would tie into World History, so I'll do it. APES, I'm considering. I've only done basic Biology, and that was last year.

But since I haven't taken any AP tests EVER, I'm not sure if I can do well on all of them. How hard are they? Is APES and APHG easily self-studiable (Apparently they are, but that's coming from the geniuses). I got a 189 on the PSAT freshman year, would that help in assessing my potential? I really don't want to underestimate the APs, they are after all, APs, even the low-ranking ones.

How much time per night would one have to put in, if they started in February?

AP Human Geography is very, very easy. I actually used a lot of terms from APES to write the essays as well. I would definitely recommend APHG if you want to take another AP.

Okay - I’ll definitely do APHG, but what about APES? Is it as easy? Do you recommend taking it? Is it doable to self-study it? And again, how much time will it take? And where can one get practice tests?

Easy, yes. As easy as APHG, absolutely not. You DO have to study for this exam, don’t procrastinate. Also, DO NOT BUY BARRON’s, nor Kaplan. I took the exam last year, read both Barron’s and Kaplan’s and not a single concept from either was on the exam (Kaplan’s is a little better than Barron’s, but not by much).

Definitely order Smartypant’s Guide to Environmental Science, that book is what makes the exam so easy

However, if you are looking for an easy exam to self-study, I’d go with psychology instead. I would take APES after taking AP bio.

I’m going to be a First-time AP taker as well. I’m definitely taking HG and ES as well. I plan to read the books many times until I can remember almost everything from the books so that I’m well prepared.

Oh, hmm. I actually think that I might do ES anyway, because Psychology doesn’t seem that interesting to me, and because Senior year (when I take IB Bio), is going to be packed -.-. ES also seems (relatively) easy, and it really is something I’m interested in.

082349 - Thanks for that confidence boost, I feel better knowing that there are others who are also going to do this =]. Are you going to take any other APs? How far along are you in self-studying? I need to catch up. I haven’t even bought an APES book, and am barely past the first chapter in Barron’s APHG. x.x

Just a reminder guys, don’t overestimate the “AP” label either. Just because it’s AP doesn’t mean its hard. AP ES and HG are really easy. ES contains basic science concepts, common sense, and basic math (like adding, multiplying, decimals). HG, other than memorizing a few of the charts, is really simple. If you read Time, National Geographic, and the newspaper I would say you probably just need to show up for the test to get a 5. FRQ’s are easy enough.

Definitely focus on your other AP’s, if you have them. They should definitely be your priority; make sure you’re getting a 5 in them before you even study for these two. Last year I chickened out of psych to study for these two and it was the worst decision ever.

OP, I got a 1980 SAT in 8th grade, 210 PSAT this year (10th). IDK if that means anything though.

I’m on the same boat, as I’m taking AP exams for the first time (although I am in my junior year). I am trying to go for national scholar in Canada, so I need to get a 4 on at least 5 of them. Planning to take 4 this year: Comp. Sci. A, Human Geography, and Microeconomics/Macroeconomics.

Alright… so no Env. Science, but definitely HG. Got my PSAT back a few days ago, 204 ^^. Now I’m considering whether or not do APEH. It does tie in closely w/ WH, right? How hard is it? About the same as WH, or easier?

I greatly prefer AP Euro, Isurus. I’m studying both currently, and like it that way. It gives me a better understanding of what’s going on in the world at a certain time, and not just a small part of it.

And I think they are about the same difficulty. World might be a little easier, but they have the same basic format.
