First time College Parent?? Time to book your hotels!

I agree that booking a room in advance is essential- especially during move in and move out times. Another thing to keep in mind is booking a college moving service ahead of time is important too since college moves are during moving busy season. Getting your child’s items shipping to their school ahead of time could help clear some of the chaos, and also save you money from renting a moving truck yourself. Many schools work with movers, and offer discounts to students who use their preferred vendor, so asking the school’s HR department if they have a preferred mover is a great idea!

Thank you, Parentofpeople and Rodney, for your suggestions. I called or emailed every hotel in the town and got pretty much the same message that everything was sold out for those dates. Most of the hotels don’t have waiting lists and in one of them I was told that they already had enough people waiting to take a room if it becomes available… Finally I got a room at a highly inflated rate in a chain hotel that for some reason was not listed on a school’s website. I had to take smoking room and it’s 3.5 miles from campus, but at least we won’t have to drive 40-50 miles every day (the college has a program for 3 days). The good thing about it that I can cancel up to the day of check-in. Good luck to all parents with those reservations!

^^^Wow, I am glad you at least got something! Like you said, if something better opens up, you can always cancel up to the day of check in.
