Maybe they keep rankings on internal records, in case the information becomes necessary?

gasp shock! horror! a movie containing an inaccurate portrayal of reality? call the tabloids!

sorry. i actually don't know anything at all about how/if internal rankings exist. that comment just made me laugh.

.. Bump..
I know this thread has gone somewhat off topic, but if you've gone to MIT please feel free to tell us about your freshman year and whether you feel it was fairly difficult and exhilirating or whatever else you may think of it. It is really helpful (at least for me) to know where most people came from and how well they did/are doing at MIT, to get a better picture of how difficult success at MIT will be. This is an important question for many of us because, all of us know that success at MIT is truly rewarding, but this perspective is helpful in measuring where we may stand, and gives us an idea of how much effort we would have to put forth. Of course someone else's experiences don't necessarily mean that if we have similar stats we will share the same fate, it's just an idea. So please post it.

First term freshman year was an adjustment period. Second term was fairly challenging since I took 6.001 and 6.002.

People say freshman year is hard because you have to work harder than you've ever worked before. You may think you worked hard in hgh school, but you'll work harder here. There are more hours in the day than you think, you can work for more of them, and you don't need to sleep as much as you think.

You've probably encountered periods in your life of a few hours, up to a day or two where you've worked this hard, and you probably remember them. You will discover that you can keep that level up for an entire semester, and there will be days that are even harder. If you remember those days with a sense of accomplishment or pride, freshman year will probably be an exhilirating time. If you remember nothing but misery from those times, don't come here.

It's happening to everybody, and you're all taking the same classes, so it's a great time to meet people, too!

"So The Recruit is misleading! In the movie, the guy Colin Farrell portrayed is said to have graduated first in his class from MIT."

Haha, I think in The Recruit he also said he majored in something like 'nonlinear cryptography' which of course isn't a real MIT major. I'd think for something like that, he would have been VI-3 or 18C. :)

he sounds like an xix major

course 19 is applied mechanical engineering and urban architecture. sorry.
