Fisher College Boston

Hello- first time posting here, my oldest daughter is a Jr. in HS now. She is interested in Fisher College in Boston and I am not finding much on here as far as reviews or really anything. Wondering if anyone has experience with this college good or bad? Thanks

I don’t normally put a lot of stock in that website where students review colleges (sorry, not allowed to name it here, but you should be able to Google from my description) because I think students with gripes are the ones who tend to dominate the ratings, but the reviews for Fisher are so uniformly negative that I would be very wary of the place. What’s the attraction for your D?

Honestly it’s the location ; in historic downtown Boston right next to Boston common and public garden . Dorms are in old brownstones which seems cool but we toured yesterday and they are definately lacking. The staff and students we met were great but the facilities just could be so much better. It’s her dream to be in the heart of a city ; not a train ride away but step outside your door; and this allows that. We are from mass so it would be nice to have her relativity close; her next choice is NYC.

Lesley?
Definitely Simmons…; Northeastern if she has the stats?
Fordham, Manhattan College, Pace in NYC (NYU and Columbia if she has the stats and the ECs)/ Baruch? (very commuter)
Macalester if she has the stats, otherwise St Thomas, Augsburg, St Catherine’s, UMN Twin Cities.
Pitt, Duquesne, Chatham in Pittsburgh
DePaul, Loyola in Chicago
American University in DC
Villanova, Temple, St Joe’s,Bryn Mawr in Philadelphia
Agnes Scott, Spelman, Georgia State in Atlanta

Adding Suffolk and Emmanuel to the Boston suggestions. Emerson if she’s interested in one of its specialties and has the stats, also.

Don’t do it. Fisher College is a greedy cash cow. We are currently in a lawsuit with them for baiting my son into a program that was intended for closure and closed three weeks into the semester… but Fisher didn’t tell the students this until the semester was almost over and the checks were cashed. We later found out that the Board of Education never approved the program to begin with ( it was a shady real estate deal to obtain property) Also, the neighborhood residents are not fans of Fisher College and are currently fighting an expansion due to Fisher being “bad neighbors” and not paying property taxes. From the student reviews I have read the dorms are nasty and even though it’s in the middle of Boston, this area is mostly residential and business.Fisher College ruined my son’s education and my future as well because I was helping him pay for college ( we got zero financial aid from Fisher except loans and I’m a single parent ). There are plenty of good schools that are much better and less expensive and I recommend going with a public instituition rather than private. One thing I have learned through our ordeal is that private schools aren’t as regulated as public schools and don’t have to abide by state laws. If you need more information I’d be happy to provide it.

Wow sorry to hear. What an awful experience ! Thanks for sharing. We are going for a tour of Suffolk this weekend; she likes the idea of that area…

If you post your D’s stats, interests etc. people on CC may have other suggestions as to urban schools.
