Fit or Education

Hello everyone. I am having trouble choosing between two schools, Indiana University Bloomington or Tulane University. I have visited both and were blown away with each institution. Here is my dilemma though, I feel that I will fit better at Tulane but I feel that I will get a better education at Indiana. I want to study business (double major in finance and something else) and Kelley blew me away with how they prepare their students. Kelley also seems to recruit much better than Tulane. With Tulane on the other hand, I love New Orleans while Bloomington felt kind of bland. Also, the Tulane students seem a bit happier and friendly which is a big thing for me because making friends isn’t my greatest strength. I guess my real question is would you rather to go a school with a better fit (Tulane) or better education (Indiana University). I don’t mean to sound bad but money is not a problem for my family. Thank you for reading and have a wonderful day!

This is actually a really hard question. While it is important to go to a school that you fit into, the education is very important. If you went to Bloomington you would be bound to meet others who you will soon become great friends with. Even though you might think you fight in with Tulane better, after going to classes at a school that is teaching you well, you will hopefully learn to love it. If you decide you would rather go to Tulane, you still wouldn’t go wrong. These are both very good schools. So overall, I think education is more important unless you will be completely unhappy at Bloomington (because college is about the social life too). But you can’t go wrong with those schools. Congrats on getting into them.

I agree with this ^
Ultimately a lot of what will make the experience a good one in college - besides the education itself - are the friends you make–and those can be made anywhere. Also, you’re double-majoring, how much time will you be spending in NO anyway? Tough call, but I’d pick IU in this case unless you really don’t want to be in Bloomington (like, the thought of it is an unhappy one).

I would pick Tulane. Many college graduates end up living and working near their colleges and it sounds like you prefer New Orleans to Bloomington.

I hate to do this but bump.

Tulane is not a weak school.

You’re not choosing between a “good” and “bad” education. More like a “really good” and an “awesome” education.

Bear that in mind when you consider how important fit is to you.

But, only you can make the final decision. Nobody but you knows how each campus felt to you, personally.
