I don’t know if this would work for you or not, but Microgainz makes fractional plates for DBs.
@Midwest67 Thanks! But my DBs are the solid, one piece, hexagonal type. I don’t think these would stretch over them? 12s aren’t all that expensive. They are just hard to find right now. And I’m cheap. I’d rather make do without and whine about it from time to time.
Workout was decent, but I had to fuss at the gym. it was completely disgusting out, so I ran to the gym, biked for 40 min, and ran home. When I got to the gym to my bike, there was a lady gabbing to another lady on the ET behind me and to the right. I know all the people there and knew she wouldn’t be on the ET but so long, so I didn’t say anything. Then, another lady (these ladies are all in their 60s-70s and gabbers. I’ve been at the gym with them for ~20 years.) joined in - all unmaksed. Ugh. So then after 15 min. the ET lady gets off and leaves - and the other two are still gabbing away. Granted, these two were behind me (and I was masked), but they were not 6 feet away. I eventually turned around and asked them to leave. One lady said “what did you say?” I told them they were closer than 6 feet and unmasked. Please talk somewhere else. And they left in a huff. Irritating. I understand not wanting to wear a mask while actually working out and even the short rests in between sets. But, I wish they would enforce wearing it while not doing anything and walking around and gabbing. That covers most everyone’s time in the gym there!
Video of the day was HIIT legs. I did my best. And since all of the craziness happened at the gym, I didn’t go wild again and just did the core at the end. Work wise, I get off at 1pm again today! And I came in late because I had to get my driver’s license renewed/upgraded to the real ID. I had to take a vision test and almost failed. I do the monovision contact thing and I swore the right block of letters was blank. I saw NOTHING. not even a blur. The left and middle were perfect. Once I explained the contact thing, the manager approved me. Getting old is so much fun.
^^ @ClassicMom98 don’t feel bad about shooing those ladies away. They can put on a mask at least while they gab!!! And keep distance.
I finally (!!!) ordered a new BW scale.
Ours is ancient and I doubt it’s very accurate.
This is a big step for me!
And my Spud Pulley System arrived. New toys!
Let us know how you like your BW scale. Is there a reason they are not used in doctor’s office? It seems like it would be a helpful thing.
My husband gets $500 at his company to spend on fitness related items each year. I only learned about this last year, and we did a mad spend on Dec 31. He is retiring and his last day is Monday, so we are doing another mad spend. He had bought some things for himself, we picked up a second yoga mat and blocks and an exercise ball, and there is about $160 left. I have mentioned in the past wanting a TRX system, I see they have a wall mount which I think would work in our exercise room, but is more than the money we have left and I’m not really really sure I want to commit to this right now. I might find something else cheaper to suggest he spend this money on.
I had a great kayak outing last Saturday with calm winds and well timed tides. I went for 4 hours over 12 miles but had to rush back. I will time the tides differently next time to be out over low tide not over high tide. This weekend we will have the effects of the gulf weather so not a kayak option maybe a bike ride.
I met my ww goal weight and reactivated my lifetime membership, or will do so on the first of the month. Mindset is the area I need to keep in line, if I do then the other things food/exercise will follow as I do see the benefits when I don’t self sabotage.
Wow, @jackief what an AMAZING perk!!! Seriously I haven’t heard of this!
What would everyone buy with $500 in terms of exercise equipment if it was available to you???
The piece of equipment I might want is a treadmill but can’t get that for $500. Maybe a rower? I’d like $500 to put towards online classes.
Oh wow. $500 a year? I wonder if running shoes would count? H wants a new cheap stationary bike. We’ve had a couple over the years that I would use when injured. He just wants like an old fashioned air dyne type thing to keep his muscles warm in between sets once the gym gets cold in the winter. I’d also buy my 12# DBs! But also upgrade ours dumbbells and get the solid ones for 45,50,55,60… and more plates for the barbell.
Yeah, I decided that if I’m getting $500 I need more than running shoes!
D had a perk like that ( it was actually more $$) when she lived/worked in NYC.
If I had a $500 to spend on fitness items I would buy running shoes, a few new weights and some clothing items from places like Athleta, Lululemon, Vuori, etc.
Hmmm. $500, huh. Either a Rogue Pegboard or a 50% ish down payment on a Skierg.
It’s been a deload week for me, so for strength today, I deadlifted a heavy double, which was 93% of 1-rep max. Woohoo. I was deadlifting with gentlemen whose 1-rep max is 700 lbs. He’s also much larger than me in terms of size though. He warmed up with my weight ladder and then I bowed out gracefully and let him do his thing.
Nonetheless, I’m hoping I can get a deadlift PR in the next 2 weeks.
I also rowed 1,000 meters, did 3-sets of glute ham raises and the air bike, sets of handstand push-ups, and then multiple sets (volume) of push presses, front squats and hang cleans.
I would like a prowler, but there is no suitable spot here at home to push it!
Executive decision to take the day off of training! I don’t do this very often!
I just feel beat up and body parts hurt. Also, working tonight.
Yay me!
That’s a great decision @Midwest67 . Listen to your body.
Our long run has been postponed until tomorrow due to today’s rain (remnants of Laura), so I tried a new yoga class today. This is on live stream from my studio, but I had never practiced with this particular teacher before (she is one of the studio co-owners). I enjoyed it, the class this morning was all level so there were some advanced posed I don’t/can’t do , but she always offered options. It was quite fast paced- I was sweating 15 minutes into the 75 minute class and that was in my house which is kept very cool. It was nice to try something new.
The thing is, he had this perk for several years and I only learned of it last December! The qualifications are quite broad, it can include things like ski tickets, which we were going to do this year but did not, and may other stretch things.
he did buy a couple pairs of new shoes and some clothes. I spent the remainder yesterday on an incline bench and stability ball. he got some blue tooth headphones. Wanted to get a couple more pairs of dumbells but nothing is in stock now.
he also had $500 to spend for equipment needed to work from home, but only spent some of that on a wifi extender despite my suggestions on things that could fit into this category.
^^^ Well, those are some nice perks. In the office and out of the office!!!
10K walk this morning at a 15/mile minute pace. It was high 50’s when I started out but I had a tank top and shorts on. Others were looking at me like I was nuts as they had on long pants and fleece - I was sweating after a couple miles!!!
I’m heading out to nap in the sun. It’s a beautiful warm but cooler day with clear skies. Don’t know how many are left this season!
I slept poorly last night and seem to recall upsetting dreams. A nap is going to be great!
My new digital scale arrived and it’s so much better than the ancient dial scale we owned (RIP). It’s not a smart scale with Bluetooth, but it kicks out an easy to read number in no time at all.
147# and my guess is that’s +12# or so in a little over a year.
In a welcome paradigm shift, I’ll be weighing myself more frequently to check that I’m not losing weight. I’d accept another 10# if that comes with strength gains.
I set up the Spud Pulley System & need to explore YouTube for some form suggestions.
I hope everyone is having a good weekend!
My iPad has died, so not spending as much time on CC these days.
@ClassicMom98, I was thinking of you today as I rode the W&OD trail from Arlington out to Reston and back. Only 38 miles total, but one of the paths had a fair number of hills. I was going for 40 but calculated incorrectly.
My son’s GF gets a 500/year credit for sports things. She has to pay half of whatever she buys. The plan has some oddities-for example she can’t get running shoes but she can get hiking boots. She’s new to biking so she got a nice helmet, and the hiking boots and I think that’s it so far.
@1214mom omg! I know that route well! One of my not very bright moments as a college kid was on that trail. Summer after freshmen year, I was going through a running slump. I could not make myself run more than 3 miles without walking. But then I read an article in Runners World Magazine about some guy who ran around his island for charity and thought, if he can do that, then I can run to DC and back!
So the next day I told my mom I had to work a long day and set off from the Hyatt at Reston Town Center (where I worked) and ran that trail to DC and back. You have to branch off at some point to cross Key Bridge. It was a 99* heat day and all I brought with me was a fanny pack with a water bottle, my drivers license, $10 and a credit card. I stopped only to refill my bottle and I bought a pack of M&Ms at a pharmacy in Arlington (I think). It took me 6 hours and is my only ultra, though unofficial. Obviously the heat didn’t bother me then like it does now.
Thanks for the memories!!!
Saturday was focused on gymnastic movements. I started with muscleups and the air bike. The HIIT was 2,000m row, 50 toes to bar and 30 power cleans. I finished with a combo of 5 rounds of carrying a heavy sandbag and GHD sit-ups.
Today, my 5-mile run along the Bay trail.
