^^^ gosh I remember those as a kid! What about them “works” for you??? I just remember them being kind of hard, think and chalky sugary??? (not saying that’s bad!)
Necco wafers are one of my favorites —since childhood!
A traditional stocking stuffer in this house!
I stocked up when I heard about the discontinuation. Then heard some company had plans to produce them again but lost track of the updates.
I’ll be heading to Walgreens this week!
I like Haribo gummy bears when I hike.
?
Yesterday I did an hour on the indoor bike, plus moved over a ton of soil with my husband and did some weeding. I felt like that was plenty of exercise.
Today we did 27-18 miles on our bikes, with an ice cream break near the end.
We would have gone longer, but it was JUST TOO HOT.
@colorado_mom - I never considered Necco wafers for running- that’s a great idea. I really dislike Gatorade (even diluted with water) and Nuun is meh. I just don’t like drinking anything that sweet although I love eating sweets. Great suggestion.
Necco wafers are easy to stash in my pocket without risk of melting, easy to chew fast (though I don’t always do so). Hard candy could also help when thirsty (or pebbles too - supposedly an old Indian trick, yuk), but more of a choke hazard.
I managed to get out on my bike for 90 minutes today, and I did some arm exercises with weights. As I have to report in to my office more over the next month or so I’m going to be doing less and less exercise, especially since I’m not going to the gym.
I"m here out there doing my thing. Just for some reason, don’t feel like posting about it. Same old, same old, I guess. I’m in a weird mood. Blah, but not blah. It depends on the moment.
^^^ I think we all get at that point from time to time.
Our local running group has had a “themed” Tuesday challenge all summer. Sometimes it’s a distance to run or walk. Once it was “wear a hat while you run/walk and post a pic”. Once it was pick a local park to exercise in.
Today’s challenge is to reach out to a running group member and invite them to exercise today. Well, I’ll reach out to you all. Find some time to run, walk, bike, lift, kayak or something today! Report back if you do!
I’ll be training later this afternoon! I’m going to be sure to videotape the press, and focus on good form, even if that means taking 3-5 pounds off the bar.
I did some searching for online coaches and narrowed it down to 4-5 choices. That’s narrowing it down, you say?!
I also decided to cancel the hiking trip to Utah at the end of October. I was going to meet one of my kids there. I’ll eat a bit of the lodging deposit, but it seems like the right decision to postpone.
I’ve got that trudging along blah feeling too.
Ran 6 miles today @ pace of 11:06 which is a good pace for me. It felt a tiny bit cooler which helps. Found 25 minutes on a work break to do a strength routine.
I’m also here doing my usual.
Last Saturday, I had a “mano a mano” match against an 18-19 year old kid, who claimed he was a rock climber, and couldn’t believe that I could climb the rope. Fastest to 10 rope climbs. We made a small bet and I proceeded to “clean his clock.” And the ironic thing was that my program had a 10-minute rope climb density test programmed for that day. Worked out great and I set a PR in terms of time.
Yesterday’s program included weighted rope climbs plus the air bike. And then a 12-minute HIIT or rowing, burpees and pull-ups. Seems like I’m really good at one thing and then everything else stinks.
The air quality has been less-than-desirable here in the SF Bay Area, so I’m treading carefully and I haven’t run in several days. The AQ has improved a little day-by-day, so I may get a run in tomorrow.
@Midwest67 Do you lift wearing a mouth guard? I just bought one, since there are those rare moments when I clench my teeth so hard and either grind my teeth together or hear one of those minor mouth cracks, but not one of those where my tooth actually cracks.
Congrats on the clock cleaning! Haha! That must have been very satisfying.
No, no mouth guard. I hadn’t considered it.
I’ll pay attention when I train next. I do clench my jaw when stressed, but I don’t know if I do it when I lift.
I’m a ball of inflammation again today!
Mentally needed to mix it up today - so did!
5.2 miles on the airdyne followed directly by 1.6 mile run.
Took at lunch break and picked up my grandpup for a 2 mile lunch walk for National Dog Day!
I will be heading out for a 4 mile walk with a neighbor as soon as it gets a little less ?.
We plan to go between 6 and 7.
I think as I am getting older I realize I dislike the heat and humidity of summer more than the cold and snow of winter. We are realizing we do not want our retirement home to be where it’s VERY hot and humid for even more of the year than it is here in Maryland.
LOL. I couldn’t agree more @1214mom I am not sure where we will wind up, but NOT hot/humid is at the top of our list.
@sushiritto WTG on beating the kid! I sure that felt good - for you, not him. OMG on the mouth guard! I must say I have never done that nor do I ever want to do that with my teeth.
I’m still doing my thing. Run and lift. Yay. I guess moving forward is better than not at all
@sushiritto Love it! Nothing like showing the young folks who is the boss.
Same old same old here, too. I run and swim. Super hot so the runs are not that long or that fast. The pool is so popular that next week we will have shorter time slots. Boo! Most people it won’t affect. I notice that most people don’t use their full time now. But it will affect me. Oh well. The masters slots will not be affected, so just my weekend swims will be shortened.
I think I want a medicine ball, one of those slam balls.
Link?
I just ordered a Spud Pulley System from Rogue for triceps and/or lat pull downs. Setting up for LTEs with safety arms = PIA.
https://www.roguefitness.com/spud-inc-pulley-systems
I was astonished Rogue was not out of stock. It was meant to be!
Just a weighted ball that I could slam down on the floor. Back when I was going to the gym, we 'd do work outs where we’d toss these to each other or use them in sit ups. My favorite use was when we’d squat, rise up with the ball overhead, then slam that ball back down on the floor with force. A great release of anger and frustration!
It was a medicine ball, maybe ten-twelve pounds, so it wouldn’t bounce. We’d have to squat to pick it up and do it again.
I always seem to bite off more than I can chew, but in this case, when the young man was warming up, he was using wonderful foot technique, “J hook” I think, and I already knew I’d win.
I just grab and go and don’t use legs for leverage. I thought about "sandbagging” him (“Geez, I don’t know if I can climb a rope”) and increasing the bet, but alas, he could have been “sandbagging” me.
Today, the air looks clear and temps are mid 70’s, so I’ll be going out to the Bay for a trail run. And then I hope to get back to the gym for some bench press and core.
Today felt a tiny bit better. Ran to the gym, 30 min of fairly solid stairmonster, and run back home. I went all wild and did abs BEFORE the shoulder workout. Shocker. I bet ya’ll wish you could be a crazy as me. It’s week 6 out of 8 for the program, so I tried to move up in weights for shoulders. I was more successful with the heavier stuff (shoulder press/upright rows) than the lighter stuff. I don’t have any 12# DBs. going from 10 to 15 is a lot. Going from 25-30s not as bad. At some point maybe we will pick some up. Anyhow, I did 5 reps with 15s and dropped immediately to the 10s to finish out the sets of 10 reps.
Tomorrow is FRIDAY! Not only do I get off early, I get to show up late. I’ve got my driver’s license renewal tomorrow. DMV is making me show up in person to do the old lady eye test. Yay. But I’m taking the opportunity to upgrade to the real ID. Their requirement documents are far worse than getting a passport. I’m glad I organized our safe this spring since finding all of that mess was not too terrible.
