@Midwest67 I think so. I prefer being cold to hot while exercising. I’ve worked out there some in previous winters when it snows and the gym is closed. We’ve always had equipment out there, just not set up well. I had to squeeze in between the lawn mower and grill.
The shed is not heated, but we also have 2 space heaters that seldom get used inside the house. We plan to move those outside later. They can replace the 2 big fans that have prevented me from melting into goo over the summer.
Wow! Heavy yoke carries look so uncomfortable! Let us know when you officially switch over to Strongman and start heading towards +280# bodyweight!
I love the mental image I have of the gym cheering for you! What a great story.
Re: the deloading. Maybe I should have emphasized the “re-set” part. It’s going to take some time (months) for me to work back up my current PRs on all the lifts.
Tortoise v Hare, and I’m fine being Tortoise.
So far, a good Instagram day with 2 posts of women, mere mortals, in their 60s picking up some heavy barbells. Woot!
@Midwest67 Take your time, you only have the rest of your long life.
As for the gym cheering after I successfully toted the Yoke, I think I’m the unofficial mascot of the gym, because of my age and being the only member 50+. I do have to say that last night and today, I’m really feeling stiff-ish. Today’s workout will begin with a lot of stretching and mobility.
My goal isn’t PR’s per se, though I do REALLY enjoy them, it’s about the reduction of body fat.
No switching to Strongman. The guys that I typically work with are probably 100-150 lbs heavier than me.
No exercise yesterday, unless you count watering the gardens or carrying the $228 worth of change (2 tote bags - HEAVY) into the credit union for cash exchange.
Today was our weekly respite from shelter-at-home … daytrip to Rocky Mountain National Park. It started a bit cool/breezy, but we had a fantastic time. We did a slow hike (some of the path was rocky / hilly, and DH takes a lot of photos), for almost 2 hours. Then we had a lovely picnic by a loud and pretty stream. Now back to the real world, which I hope will include a morning 5k run.
awful running weather. 78* and so muggy this morning at oh dark thirty. No oxygen to be found. I swam through the muck to the gym to do the stairmonster and then putted back home. I didn’t walk any of the big hill, so a mini win. I did get passed by a turtle. We will overlook that for now. Video of the day was shoulder & arms circuit. It was a good workout and went by fast. Doing tricep push-ups in the burnout round was much easier than trying to do them after the chest/tris workout. Finished with some core.
Yesterday, as part of my new programming, I did Squats 135# x 8 reps x 3 sets.
It was refreshing to do a different rep range, and boy oh boy, was I huffing and puffing at the end of each set.
Then Deadlifts 185# x 5 x 2 . That was a breeze and form looked very good on the video playback.
Friday, I’m going to try pin presses for the first time. Not looking forward to moving the safety arms, but I am hopeful pin presses can help me build a big press someday.
I’ll need to review some how-to videos again.
We are having another SPECTACULAR weather day here in Chicagoland. Sorry to those who are still melting in the heat & humidity!
$228 of cents would be 57kg.
$228 of nickels would be 22.8kg.
$228 of dimes, quarters, half dollars, and large dollar coins would be 5.171kg.
$228 of small dollar coins would be 1.847kg.
Today wasn’t half bad. The best day of the week. Weather was normal summer yuck - an improvement. The dew points may drop next week. I’m crossing my fingers, because often the weatherman likes to just tease us with the extended forecast this time of year. It’s always on the horizon, but never comes! Anyhow, I ran to the gym and ran a bit longer before getting on the bike. Gym was empty, I guess for the holiday weekend. Maybe 5 other people. Ran back home and I got revenge on the turtle. Video was 30 min of HIIT. It was a killer. I did my best. Finished with abs.
I get off at 12 today! And weird news… a couple of days ago, a few peeps in our office got a talking to for non PC conversations. Nothing was said to me. However, this morning I got called in for a random drug test. This is the FIRST time in 23 YEARS that I have been called. Most of my co-workers get called 1-2 x each year. Coincidence? Hmmm… But I did pass and it wasted an hour, so it’s all fine by me.
I ended up not running yesterday, but I did go this morn. It was a little warmer than ideal.
I’m still toying with the idea of running before food, instead of my usual morning run routine (poached egg and then get dressed and putter… leave at least 30 minutes afterward… then cereal or other food for main breakfast after the run). If I skipped food, I would still have water and Necco wafers with me on the trail. Thoughts?
@colorado_mom how long (time wise) will you be out there? I never eat before a workout and mine (aerobic plus lifting) are 2+ hours long. In the old days, a long run (over 90 min), I would drink Powerade.
@colorado_mom that’s my question too - for how long a run?
I am not your average “walk out the door and start running” person. I don’t give it much thought. My usual 3-4 mile run, I never eat before hand. Just enough water to swallow my morning calcium and vitamin D and I’m off. I usually then don’t eat at until at least an hour after I get back.
When I did races - even 5k’s I would often eat a piece of Dave’s Killer Bread with peanut butter before I left for the race. But from home, nope, just head out. Again I’m not running for that long.
@colorado_mom - I always get up way early before a run and have my coffee (w/ just some 1% milk). I also eat half a banana before I run. If its a longer run (8 or more miles for me) I will add a piece of toast, sometimes with peanut butter. Never more than that.
Oh… forgot to say, I only run 5k (slowly, about 40 min) with a few minutes walk before/after . My lake trail that I drive to for my run is less than 2 miles away. For more than half of the run, I am not near a street … would not be able to call hubby if I got light headed. But with one of the possible starting points, which I currently favor (softer dirt trail first), I’d be back to civilization after the first 3k.
