Fitness, Nutrition and Health- All Welcome (Hardcore and “Light”)

@basket – warning: barre is hard. It looks easy but I can tell from the muscle aches I end up with the next day that I’ve been working hard.

I sincerely hope people don’t leave this thread. I enjoy hearing about everyone’s exercise/fitness journey. I have learned a great deal from people here and hope people continue to contribute.

I was doing such a good job staying “up” on all the posts, but now I’m 81 behind.
I hope to “catch up” soon and you guys still motivate me
I exercised a lot on vacation, and then almost none last week. (Too much work, both at home and at work).
Cleaned a lot Saturday, so got a fair amount of exercise.
Sunday I rode my bike for about 28ish miles and then came home and walked 4 miles with a friend.
Keep up the good work everyone!

Checking back in. My exercise is largely cardio. In prep for our big hiking trip next summer we are definitely working at upping mileage.

Over Labor Day we did 3 straight days (9.6,6). Nearly every Sunday we are doing a 5 miler (technically a 4, dinner followed by 1).

Plus soccer is back and I’m playing at least once a week which works of to 7+ steps in 75 minutes.

So good to see people jumping back in! - all welcome and I love seeing all the positivity!

30 minutes on the airdyne this morning before a necessary early arrival at the office.
Dining now on my “breakfast break” at my desk - oatmeal, a poached egg and some blackberries!

Got in an hour of casual tennis this morning before the rain arrived. Lots of unhealthy eating last night (after a 25 hour fast for YK), so back on the wagon today.

Will you be backpacking next summer or day hiking?

6.2 miles walk/run on an almost-fall day here in central Texas. Met up with a friend and we chatted away the miles and did 3 loops of the neighborhood course.

Good to see everyone reporting in. I’ll try to do a little more on the TRX straps later in the day.

Day hiking from B&B to B&B with our baggage carried between them for us. The only thing we will be carrying will be food, water and extra clothing layers.

The complete trip is 16 walking days plus 1 rest day. There are 2 16 mile days and 4 dayd under 10. But a couple of the shorter days will involve significant up and downs.

This sounds incredible. Maybe I missed it, but where are you doing this?

Swam on a chilly day in an outdoor pool. 2700m. Pre corona we would be four or so in a lane and keep each other going, pushing each other and helping each other count. Now we are one or maybe two, with each the opposite ends… No one has been my speed so I have been doing the workout alone. Well, today the guy next to me asked if we could do the 50s together and we did. I had to work a lot harder. I suspect the coach set me up. She knows I have been completing the workout but ignoring the clock.

Missing the gym. We have some dumbbells, but I think we need a larger selection. The ones we have are from the kids so heavy for me. My spin place did rent a big, former car dealership building, so maybe I will get to go back…

The company I’ve traveled with before, Adventures in Good Company, has several “slack packing” trips. That is right up my alley! Give me a bed, a beer, and a hot shower at the end of the day. Also, carry most of my crap for me.

I hope to do their trip in the White Mountains one day…

If you do the White Mountains–don’t go in the fall. It gets really crowded. I hiked Tuckerman’s Ravine with my younger daughter. She was a camper and a camp counselor for years at a Y Camp not to far from Mt. Washington.

Did a stretch yoga class this morning and plan a bike ride (1 hour) this afternoon.

The 16-day trip sounds great. Where will you backpack?

It is called the Coast to Coast Walk in England. It runs from St. Bees on the Irish Sea Robin Hood Bay on North Sea.

I understand the words, but I’m missing the meaning. Paint a picture for someone who knows nothing about swimming?

Sure. The coach gives us a workout and tells us what we should do, like swim 4 x 100. (Swim 100meters 4x with a little break in between.) I will read that and say “okay” and swim 100 m 4x.

What I will ignore is that she also has written something about how fast to swim it. Her instructions will be individualized since we are a diverse group. She may have written that we should swim each 100 meters 2-3 seconds faster than the one before it, for example, and told us to take only fifteen seconds rest between each one. I won’t lollygag between each 100meters, but I won’t watch the clock and time my efforts. I will just complete the workout.

Swimming next to this guy, I had to watch the clock. He would push off the wall and swim 50m, pause, look at the clock and note his time, then go again after the appropriate amount of rest.

Left to my own devices, I will swim the whole distance, but not too intensely. Swimming with someone, I will pay attention to the clock and swim faster. Pre Covid, there were several people in a lane and I had to do this every workout. Now, with just me in the lane, I have become lazy.

Brisk 4 mile walk this morning and then did a little at-home body weight exercise circuit with squats, walkouts, push ups and lunges. First time doing those things in quite some time

Almost 90 minutes of soccer last night.
Today is the day our cleaning lady comes so we walked just over 2 miles to the bagel place and then 1 mile home

I have to ask @jmnva06 - how was it that you walked 2 miles there but only one mile home? Did you get a lift from someone?!!

Nice job @DeeCee36 - I actually love the feeling of good soreness after working some new muscles.

3 mile run for me this morning. Then I did a volunteer asymptomatic COVID test for the university I work at. Leave it to me to only visit the football stadium for COVID testing!!! Kind of dawned on me though as I was there that this was perhaps where students who might suspect COVID to be tested. I’m glad it was outside and spacious and few people.

Thanks @Lizardly ! Sounds like you’ve got a good coach!
