Fitness, Nutrition and Health- All Welcome (Hardcore and “Light”)

An hour on the home bike this morning. Felt good to sweat! @ClassicMom98 Did you get a new kitty yet?

I remember those swim sets from years ago when I swam in a summer league as a kid.

I didn’t sleep so well last night & allergies are roaring! I’m a little afraid of the squats today but I aim to get down there and give it a shot.

@abasket

Coming home we took the most direct route (essentially straight down our street), but going we took a longer route (more or less doing a big semi-circle).

This is similar to what we do when we go to the Mexican place in the same shopping center we will take a longer way there and then direct route home.

Depending on which streets we use we can make the route there anywhere from 2-4 miles.

Ahhh! Great move! A good tip for all of us - the direct route can be modified to get more exercise in.

I just got back from a trip to visit my kids. Didn’t do a ton of exercise (had my octogenarian in laws with us) but got out for a 4 mile hike with my daughter and her boyfriend.

Guess who had to stop to catch their breath, hint it wasn’t me! All my summer at the trails paid off. It wasn’t easy but I wasn’t gassed either.

My daughter bought a Nordic Track bike, I really liked it. My husband said that we can get one to have another thing to do in the winter.

@deb922 is the Nordic Track bike like a Peloton??

@sushiritto, please do come back and post again. I’m a sporadic poster, but I loved hearing about your workouts. They were inspirational!

I visited my elderly parents for the first time since February last weekend and managed to get a couple long walks and a run in. Ran when I got home and had a short walk today. Now getting off the computer to go do some strengthening. If you can handle someone who is an intermittent poster, I’d like the strength challenge.

Thanks everyone for the kind words. I’m here, I’ve just been busy. As I’ve mentioned before, I read everyone’s posts and enjoy everyone’s health, exercise and nutrition journey.

Monday was a “clean day.” And I worked on my strict (no gymnastics kip) inverted presses and pull-ups. The HIIT was power cleans, air bike and air squats. L-sits for core.

Tuesday was a deadlift day. The HIIT was a 1,000m row, 30 deadlifts and 50 burpees. I can’t stand burpees, but I’m getting faster doing them. Weighted GHD sit-ups for core.

Today I started with work on my muscle-ups. I’ll tell ya, warming up my shoulders for this movement takes a lot of time. I use resistance bands, then dumbbells and finally I start working up to swings on the bar, starting with short compact swings.

The HIIT was a long one, taking me around 27:30 consisting of a 1.5 mile run, toes to bar and front squats. No core accessory work today. I ran out of time.

I usually take Thursday off, but I missed benching today. So, we’ll see. I’ll probably go into the gym and get some work in tomorrow.

The one thing I really like about my gym is that people will cheer or coach you as you lifting or, in my case, they’ll exhort me on to finish my HIIT quicker.

Honeywell HPA300 Air Purifier. I highly recommend it I have one for the bedroom, since I’m allergic to animals and we have animals.

The Nordic Track bike is like a peloton. She liked it quite a bit better. The peloton is only a spin bike and you have to adjust the resistance yourself.

The Nordic Track adjusts automatically, it does more than spin. It’s more like spin and bike trainer combined. My husband liked that it was smoother than his bike trainer. I liked the classes and they seemed to have a lot of variety

@sushiritto

Thank you for the air purifier recommendation! I’ve made a note!

I’ll see how I do once we have the first hard freeze, which should be soon! It could be ragweed ??? tormenting me…

Squats felt heavy yesterday — 3 sets of 5 — but deadlifts felt good.

Today is a rest day & I’ll go to the range with my brother then do some puttering around the house.

I did a “40 min full body workout with dumbells” yesterday, as it wasn’t walking weather, and I really need to add more of this into my routine. My butt is sore today which is good but shows how much I need it. I will do this one again, and find more which focus on upper body.

One of my problems with doing videos is that I like to do something first thing in the morning, and our exercise room is a bedroom and my husband sleeps in later than I do. If I start working, it is easier to put exercise off, and maybe not do it. I’ll have to figure out a good plan.

Sounds like there was some Weight Lift Wednesday going on yesterday!!!

Nothing like when squats are part of a weight routine to get your behind sore!

@jacief - how do you view the video you use? On a tv or a laptop? Wondering if you could use headphones so there would not be the noise to bother your sleeping spouse just the screen light. Or can the screen be turned on an angle at all??

A few miles inside biking last night because I couldn’t do my evening walk due to wind and rain. This morning, another bike before work!

@deb922 sounds like a good piece of equipment. I would totally be good doing a video workout that way over going to a class.

our exercise room is not in the same bedroom we sleep in, but he is a very light sleeper. I cast to a TV and can lower the volume, but it would probably still wake him up even with the doors closed. At least I am not currently riding the exercise bike which is even louder.

^^^^ Ok, then HE needs the earplugs!!! (seriously my daughters use these regularly for sleeping and they really do the job!)

You have my sympathy.

My husband is a very light sleeper, even with a CPAP machine.

It’s ridiculous what will wake him up. I’m grateful I sleep deeply and don’t suffer from that problem.

Low 60s this morning, so I met my friend again for an hour walk/run. It’s nice to have a little cooler weather. DH was on the bike this morning, so I’m glad I could get outside. I’m a little sore in the shoulders and triceps from the TRX work. I guess that’s good.

Soreness (not pain) is weakness leaving the body.

I probably should have taken the day off, but I didn’t. ?‍♂️

I had delusions of grandeur thinking I could get a head start on tomorrow’s workout, however, I kept it relatively fast and simple and stuck with the program. No barbell, pull-up bar, etc. needed.

I started with a 1.5 treadmill run followed by a 3x10 of glute ham raises, 3x10 of single arm KB swings for each arm, 3x15 weighted oblique crunches each side and I finished with a 1.5 mile treadmill run, but this time wearing a 20-21 lb weighted vest.

OMG is that a pretty heavy vest - 20 pounds?! I see people walking with them sometimes - I never guessed they might be that heavy.

Wow on the vest. I would be bent in half! Years ago hand weights were a thing for walking and running- or these strange gloves with weights on the top part of the glove.
75 minute walk with some running breaks thrown in. By myself today but it was still a nice morning.
