Fitness, Nutrition and Health- All Welcome (Hardcore and “Light”)

In normal times, my 3x/week class is one day aerobic, one day weights and one day half and half. On the weight days, it’s both machines and free weights. On the half-and-half day, it’s only free weights because we are in a different room without machines.

Since we’ve been home, the program is structured the same way, but I have been working out now anywhere from 5-7 times a week. I include workouts that do more weight work rather than pure aerobics. Thankfully, I already had a range of dumbbells from 5s to 12s, and as part of the program I am able to check out a heavier pair, in my case 20s. A friend works out with this guy, and I do a version of his weight workout at least once a week: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lNswDF-RczM&t=5s&ab_channel=SixPackAbs.com

I’ve had knee problems since my running days, so if they ever get creaky I’ll ride the stationary bike and do some weight work instead. The other key thing I’ve done is to eat more protein.

jackie, we call the workout you did an AMRAP … as many reps as possible in a set time.

Wowser, what a windy day we have in my part of Colorado. The sun is lovely, temp is great (low 60s), but that wind is tough. The lake has little waves crashing the shore. The kayakers were rowing but not moving. The guy kite boarding was reallllly moving! I biked to the lake and had a very slow 5k run, going out/back instead of normal loop. Then ran another 2.5k because there was no desire to take a bike lap around the lake today.

Rainy yucky day today, but I did ride an hour on my indoor bike setup.
I haven’t been using it much lately, but need to get back to it.

rainy day for me today, if it is light rain later I will try to get a walk in (mostly because of pokemon).

I did a 40 min dumbell video that I’ve done several times, and I like it a lot. I browsed others and started another longer one, but it didn’t seem to have the combo of exercises I wanted, so went back to the known quantity. I can already feel it in my glutes a hour later.

Here is the nutrition part of my post- when we went for a drive on Sunday we stopped at an apple orchard. Besides apples, I bought cider doughnuts which are so delicious. But now they are gone, so moving on. I will probably eat the apples plain and not make anything with them, at least not any deserts. I also bought cider which is also delicious but really need to watch the high sugar concentration. I will be able to drink that in small quantities. Did put it in the ww app and was about what I expected.

^^^ I love your nutrition part of your post! Also, indulge in the cider donuts and then be done!

Apple slices and PB are often my easy breakfast or lunch main item. Also can be a good salad topping!

7 miles on the Airdyne this morning. I’ll walk 3 miles after work.

Did my online workout today, and, ouch, I was stiff. I might need to revisit yesterday’s workout to see what we did that made me so sore today. Thighs were a burning.

An hour walk with DH on the beach. I love apples, but they do NOT fill me up. I don’t know why, but they don’t.

Today I finally listed some equipment I don’t use any longer on Craigslist. Wish me luck! Not my favorite thing. Plus, so many weird people!

For a fleeting moment, I considered entering the Barbell Logic “Lift or Die” online meet. It’s a press and deadlift meet and you submit your lifts by video. Halloween costume optional.

Then I got discouraged when I read the divisions. I’d be lumped into Master’s (everyone over 40) and at 147# I’d be a middleweight (141-180#).

Translation: I do not have a chance at a prize against those younger heavier women. But it still might be fun. I need to think it over.

Training was enjoyable today in large part because it was lighter weights (easy) for Week One of my third cycle of 8-5-2.

Overall inflammation is better, with the help of modern medicine.

@“Youdon’tsay” Routine is the enemy. You work different muscles when you change up the routine.

@Midwest67 To quote a Nike ad, just do it. So what if you don’t win, it’s just really exciting to compete against others. And you have no idea who your competition will be. Your power numbers are good, IMO.

When local events return, whether a CF comp or an obstacle race, probably next year, I plan to compete again. I had to sit out this year, because of Covid. I probably won’t win anything, but heck, it’s just fun to compete!

BTW, I say “probably,” because at this point, there aren’t too many in our age group who can both run reasonably fast AND tackle some pretty difficult obstacles. The last time I ran a Spartan Race, in 2019, there weren’t too many aged 50+ running the course.

My point: We may win by default.

Walked with some 8 minute running stretches. Still down at the coast. Humid and breezy, but a nice change.

Walked 2miles (shortest path to bagel place and back) in the morning. Coached 1st graders and then went old school and pulled out the Wii Fit for 30 minutes.

First graders are so cute!

Sold everything I listed on Craigslist! Yay!

I took off half a day of work to enjoy the beautiful weather here today. (COVID has left me with the “problem” of having 3+ weeks of leave to use between now and Dec 31st). I rode my bike for an hour and a half.
Then I went to an outdoor dinner with 2 of my friends. Likely won’t be able to do that many more times this year.

I’m in a vacation overload boat too - but too much work on my plate to take time off right now!!!

Savor each of those nice fall days! Today is just a brisk walk day for me. 2 miles before work, 2.5 miles after work.

BTW, I’m missing some of our posters here!! Anyone who has participated, please drop in - as often as you like!!!

I was away from exercise a few days … though I did get a few (very few) steps walking to photo ops on our weekly Rocky Mountain National Park daytrip. At least it was very good for mental health  Maybe next week schedules and weather will allow us to go hiking again.

It is cooler down at my altitude too. That provided my nice weather for a run (low 50s, but darn a bit windy - luckily I had warmup on the bike ride to the park). Yaaay, that allowed me to run a bit faster and have a 38 min 5k again.

I’ve been getting in some longer walks with our old terrier. He is loving the cooler weather & does not poop out so fast as when it’s hot.

Today is bench, pin press, & chins. I’m looking forward to it.

Had a bit of sciatica discomfort yesterday, but not too bad.

I borrowed a space heater from work to see if it takes the chill off the basement.

I did exactly the same as @1214mom - took half a day vacation yesterday, went for a bike ride and a walk, and possibly the last dinner out. Well, it wasn’t dinner for us, we went to a brewery and had a sandwich and some beers. I was also able to squeeze in a walk this morning before the rain.

I also have quite a bit of vacation left, so will take days/half days when I can.

Did a lot of beach walking this morning, but didn’t time it or worry about running. Just enjoyed the day. Heading home tomorrow. It was a nice break. I got plenty of stairs in this week since the place we rented didn’t have an elevator. We didn’t talk about college applications or choices at all on this trip to give the kid a break!
