@MomofWildChild, you’re a seasoned pro, you will get back into your groove. Hope the injury heals up quickly. When you’re ready to give yourself a bit more challenge with the balancing stuff, try shutting your eyes when you do it; It’s amazing how big a role your vision plays in maintaining balance.
I know! I used to do that in yoga and I was terrible!
MOWC, do you not have a road bike?
I do have a nice bike, but it’s not a sport that fits my work schedule or climate. My husband is a cyclist, but he’s retired!
Today’s workout was working up to a heavy set of 2 reps for the bench press and then a heavy set of 3 reps for Sumo deadlifts. With drop sets for both movements.
And then 5 rounds of 800-meter runs with 25 sit-ups on a glute-ham-developer machine with weighted medicine ball held overhead between each round.
Deload week is over. New cycle for me starts Monday, which means new stuff. Long run, hopefully, in the morning.
Holy moly @sushiritto !!!
Beautiful day here and first time we’ve seen the sun all week. 6.2 miles and my knee didn’t do too badly. Mainly feels like it might collapse but the last 2 miles it felt almost normal. Glad I was able to get out there. Perhaps a tad more than I should have done…

…have you ever considered getting a percussive massage gun like a Theragun G3 Pro or Hypervolt Plus?
Yes! I have totally been thinking seriously thinking about getting one and have read lots of reviews and comparisons on both brands. Any suggestions?? I see that you owned the Theragun before your daughter confiscated it have you gotten a new one? Or tried the other brand? Just very curious if the Theragun is really worth the extra money. Any advice you can give (or if anyone else on the thread has tried one) would be most appreciated!
It was beautiful here earlier today, with actual sunshine (and temperatures in the 40’s). I took a long and wonderful walk. It’s cloudy now, so I am feeling grateful that I was able to get out earlier. My body really likes a brisk walk!
Here’s some info on massage guns. https://consumerreviewer.org/best-muscle-massagers/?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIj6W2uPKz5wIVAtvACh2wmQ_7EAAYAiAAEgIY9vD_BwE
There was a time when the word “streak” had a somewhat different connotation in the context of running.
Just got back from vacation and hit the gym today. I rode the exercise bike (the one like they use in spin class, not the other) for an hour/18 miles. I did some weight machines, a couple of things for my abs, then I did the rowing machine for about 7.5 minutes.
I am not perfect, but my motto is “movement is better than no movement.”
@UMD2021&2023, no, I have not gotten a second one yet, lol. Am waiting for another sale. The Black Friday Sale for the Theragun gave me 1/3 off.
In comparing the Theragun G3 Pro and the Hypervolt Plus, the former has 2 speeds and the latter 3. However, the Theragun’s handle configuration and ability to change the angle of the head make the Theragun more versatile for self-use. A physiatrist I went to used the Hypervolt on me and it worked as well as the Theragun. For him, it was a price issue in choosing the Hypervolt. But as I mentioned, for self-administration, the Theragun is much more versatile and easy to use on yourself. The physiatrist basically said that he would only get the Hypervolt or Theragun as opposed to other brands. The Theragun also comes with a very sturdy carrying case; the Hypervolt does not.
If you folks see Colorado snowstorms this week (as predicted) on national news… don’t feel sorry for us. Today DH and I had a great day driving up to Rocky Mountain park - there was pretty white snow, with temps in the 50s (but a bit windy). Then later back at home I ran 5k in 75 degree sunshine (friends from Calcium thread - I got plenty of Vitamin D today. ) It was late afternoon and cooling off a bit, so I ran another/slower 5k.
Ahhh, 75 degrees! That sounds heavenly!
I’ve been out of town and off this thread for a couple days (but not off the exercise bandwagon!) and I just want to say I appreciate catching up on the posts and seeing both victories and setbacks. Or hits and misses. It’s our habit to report when things go well and to not report when things go less than well - both are real life!
Happy Monday all!
I usually bring breakfast with me to work. My routine in the morning at home is quick and scheduled - shower, dress, walk/feed dog, grab already packed food for the day, drive to work. I get to work and do email, etc. for an hour then have breakfast break (which is now!) Often that means, an egg, fruit, yogurt. Sometimes I like to change it up with oatmeal. I had some quick steel cut oat packs in my desk that I usually added some milk and fruit to . But this weekend I picked up some Bob Red Mills Musli. I added milk, a little dried fruit and nuts and a little fresh fruit and it is DELICIOUS! The plus is that there are no added sugars and increased protein, fiber and a couple other nutrients over the oatmeal I was using. A nice change and a little more movement towards monitoring the added sugars.
LOL. Add me to those reporting when things do not go well! 60s and 70s in February? No way!!! (though @colorado_mom we loved RMP when we visited a couple of years ago. Jealous!!!) But this weather brings out my allergies in full force. I’ve got itchy, goopy, & swollen eyes. I woke up with triple black rings and a poofy face and all my skin itched. (And I already take Zrytec/Nasocort every day!) My lungs feel like poop, as did my legs. I lasted for 2 minutes running before half a–ing it on the stairmonster and bike. Then I did the Plyometric video. This is one that is WAY out of my comfort zone. You will never see this bod on a Superbowl Halftime Show. I am a big clumsy oaf! But, I did it, so there.
I’m supposed to get 3 months of decent feeling weather. I’m still waiting. I’ve worn my winter coat twice this season. <whine!!!> I’ve warned my co-workers to stay FAR away from me today… </whine!!!>
I think I am going to plunk down some dollars for knee sleeves.
I’ve been reading some recommendations online…anyone here want to toss in their two cents?
RMNP has a very special place in my heart. ==swoon==
For now, I’m going to continue taking a break from beer (all booze). I’m feeling a little salty that I don’t feel AMAZING without it. Humph.
Happy Monday all!
Have been following along here, even if I haven’t posted every day. I am, however, getting exercise every day, and closing all the rings on my Apple Watch. I’ve been either going to the gym (ARC Trainer, Treadmill, &/or Bike) or taking our pup for long, brisk walks. (Fortunately she’s not pokey and doesn’t make frequent stops.)
I know I could be doing better re: eating, though. At the moment I feel as if I have the exercise thing under control, but need to work on portion control and snacks. H pretty much only eats dinner M - F, but then believes he can eat everything and anything on weekends – which means there are lots of snacks around. Yes, they’re usually healthy snacks, but too much of a good thing …
Have you tried logging your food?
Eye-popping for me.
The result was I now prioritize my protein, and carbs fill in most of the rest. I have to watch the fat grams, or those will quickly rack up the calories.
Yesterday was an unusual day and I snacked a lot & did not have my regular meals.
I found that I came up short on my protein goal AND more importantly, I had used up almost all my calories for the day.
Boo!
Of course, depending on your size & goals and your H’s size & goals, he may have a lot more calories to play with every day.
Boo!
