Fitness, Nutrition and Health- All Welcome (Hardcore and “Light”)

my non-scale victory (as they say in WW lingo) is that I bought a new bathing suit and I do look great in it if I do say so myself  My old ones were literally falling off, both from the stretch wearing out, they were several years old, and the weight loss. I was able to get two bottoms and one top which will suffice for the short term, would like to have three full sets total.

in other WW news, they have postponed again the date by which lifetime members need to weigh in in person to retain the benefits. It had been end of June now it is moved to end of September. I am below my goal weight but no reason to go in person yet, if I lose a few more pounds (which I wouldn’t mind but isn’t really a goal) I will reach another milestone and get another little prize, so if that happens before Sept I will go claim it. I like little prizes.

Was going to hike this weekend with friends but the weather is not promising. Disappointed as I don’t live near mountains anymore and was going to be in the area anyway.

The knee pain could be from many causes - possibly running maybe not…

I tried running years ago and had knee pain after about a mile. At some point I started doing some squats and other lower body work (very minimal, but on a regular basis). When I started running again, I was fine. A doctor told me that my knee pain was due to weak muscles.

If you want to run again, I would recommend seeing a doctor first. Of course you might want to do other fitness activities instead.

Today I’m reminded how much I hate summer, lol. I guess it is almost June. We had a cool spring, so for that I’m thankful. Only 4 more months. I just was wiped out by the workout. The run was good. The stairmonster session was tough, but I held on. The weight workout was just tougher than I remembered.

Knee pain is such a general term. There are several diagnoses that could result in “knee pain.” ITB, Runner’s knee, Torn ligaments/meniscus, etc. And so many more things that could cause the pain. Too much, too soon? Improper type of shoe for your gait? Inflexible feet, ankles, calves, quads, hamstrings, glutes, or hips? One leg longer than the other?

On the bright side, the fact that it went away and you can squat fine without issue is a great sign that nothing terrible was done!

So glad you found a swimsuit you like jackief… such a nice way to celebrate your weight loss victory. I’m due for a new one and was going to get one last year, til Covid kept me home.

Once in a while I have knee pain running, usually but not always the left knee. The pain point moves around, so I think(?) it is nothing serious. I do try to make sure my running shoes absorb impact and don’t get too worn.

I tried out my new running shoes today… felt great. My time was slow, still acclimating I guess to mile high thin air and intense sunshine. I try not to care because I have friends (mostly older than me) who are dealing with back issues, canes etc. I’m just delighted to have decent mobility.

For my last pair of running shoes I had actually ordered by phone from local running store (which is somehow tied to jackrabbit online ordering) in May 2020 during Covid shutdowns. It did feel good to give more business to the store that had patiently walked me through my options when store was closed, provided free shipping (and promise of exchange, if needed, once store opened). The salesperson yesterday, as always, seemed very knowledgeable and helpful.

I was willing to try another brand if similar (or better) stability and impact resistance, but I ended up with my 4th pair of Saucony. The model name conventions change, but this year my model is called Omni 19.

DW and I had planned to do a 9ish mile hike today. We woke to fairly heavy rain and she said to me “what soccer games are on today?”

So we watched the most lucrative game in the world–the Championship playoff final. Winner goes to Premier League and because of TV rights it is worth $250 Million. Brentford won and will be in the top level of English soccer for the 1st time since 1947.

We then did a super cool 8.3 mile hike that was mostly on streets but include a cool portion on a stream that runs into Potomac.

We got home in time to watch the European Champions League final.

Ended the day with 2 miles (1 each way to dinner).

Now we are watching DC United beat up on Inter-Miami.

Step count for day is 24.7K

And the 2021 “Murph” is in the books. :white_check_mark:

With a 20 lb weighted vest, a 1 mile run, 100 pull-ups, 200 push-ups, 300 squats and finish with a 1 mile run.

Time: 55 minutes. I think my time last year was around 70 minutes, but I’d have to check back on my posting from last year.

Later today I may go to the gym for some back squats.

Way to go!

Did the hike that we’d planned for Saturday. It was 10.5 miles (roughly 40% on streets and 60% in cool parks).

Full day today. Got up and went to the gym. Did the stairmonster for an hour and then week 2, day 1 of Phase 3 AAA. After lunch, we hopped in the car and drove to the blue ridge parkway and hiked. Then stopped at Mabry’s Mill and then to a nice diner where after dinner I tried possum pie. Weather was spectacular.

Sounds like a great day. Love the above photos!

Wow, running in a 20lb vest like @sushiritto would be tough. But I supposed that was what it was like for me when I started running 4 years ago, 20lb heavier.

On Saturday I tried to PR my deadlift and failed miserably. Several people were watching and I got ahead of myself. I think I actually jinxed one of the “big boys” in the gym who also failed. Of course, he failed at 750 lbs!

In the process of failing, I slightly tweaked my back. It’s fine. I rested Sunday and I did the “Murph” today. Just a tad stiffish. That’s why I wanted to hit the gym this afternoon for some “squat therapy.” I went medium-heavy, but the sheer act of squatting just felt wonderful for my back. I don’t know what it is, but squatting feels great on the back. Nothing too heavy. I also did some stretching and rolling out.

For the “Murph,” my new vest made the whole thing much more comfortable than in prior years. Prepping a month ahead of time helped a lot also. Looking at the reddit comments this year, I do feel very good about my time and the fact that I did it as “prescribed.” No scaling. And because I’m not in my 20’s and 30’s like most of the nuts that do it. :grinning:

I was training with the weight vest last week and there was a pregnant women working out in the gym at the same time. She noticed the vest and said something to me along the lines of “kinda gives you an idea of what we go through” with a big smile.

I said “Ya, I’m not sure about that. I’ll take the vest every day of the week and twice on Tuesdays.” :grinning:

I am starting to get my lungs accustomed to mile-high again after 3+ weeks at sea level. (When running the first few times I did not get out of breath, just was slooow. And hot - CO sunshine can be intense, even when temp in 60s). On Saturday I ran my normal 5k lake loop and then added another 1k slower. Today I did 5k + 3k. Weather was mostly cloudy, so that helped.
