Fitness, Nutrition and Health- All Welcome (Hardcore and “Light”)

Baltimore Harbor was so pretty when we visited. I know it was a lonnnng time ago because we had a baby carriage and an umbrella stroller with us.

I talked myself into getting up this morning and running 5k… plus then another 3k slower. I have a variety of ways to carry a small flat water flask in pockets, but this week I have been using this thingy with small squarish water bottle at the back waistline of my shorts. https://www.amazon.com/Buddy-Magnetic-Personal-Hydration-Pouch/dp/B010C65V2I?ref_=ast_sto_dp

@ClassicMom98 Very cool. I’m not familiar with yoga and poses, but great for core and shoulder strength.

I videotape myself all the time. Our gym has phone stands for member use. I’m always self-analyzing my form on lifts.

Today was a deadlift and power clean and jerk day. I deadlifted close to my 1-rep max and then power clean and jerked to a heavy double.

The HIIT was a combination of toes to bar and lighter deadlifts. The HIIT took me about 15 mins. And then I finished up with a 5K treadmill run. I was trying to simulate a 5K under fatigue, which represents the last 5K of my upcoming half.

That looks so hard! Congrats!

Husband and I rode bikes for 50 miles on the C&O Canal towpath yesterday. I was pretty impressed with us, until I got home and found out my son rode 80. (He went with someone for 30, then did another 50 a little I’m guessing). It was quite warm here. Fortunately, in at least some places the towpath is shady.

Thanks all for the kudos. I have worked really hard on that for a long time. Flexibility/mobility does not come easily to my body. Getting older doesn’t help! also, my AT (it’s really on the sides of the heel where the AT attaches) have been bumming me out. The beach didn’t help. I need to just ride the bike for awhile until it can strengthen back up more properly. It’ll never be good - too much scar tissue/damage - but it can be a lot better. So today, I just massaged and stretched for 1:30.

@1214mom I love the Baltimore Harbor! I’m glad you had a good time.

@Colorado_mom I may need to look at something like that for my cell phone. My shuffle died and it’s getting really hard to find them. They only come refurbished now. I sweat so much that I have to have my cell phone in a plastic bag. Wireless ear buds are not for me. Too expensive. I always lose things, and I am also afraid they’d bounce out of my ears while running. And again - the sweat - I short them out constantly. I can wear wired ones with my fuel belt, but I seem to constantly bump something and turn it off and it’s a PITA to get it out and reset it. I have a koala clip which is similar to what you have shown, but it hangs on the back of your sports bra. I’m not flexible enough to get it on/off easily. It doesn’t stay on my shorts, but now I’m wondering if it will stay on my fuel belt. Hmm…

I like wired earbuds too. Special bonus that if cellphone happens to bounce out of my pocket, it is “tethered”.

I too have struggles with cellphone turning off in running belt so usually use deep pockets of shorts or back pockets of top (bike jerseys and triathalon tops etc). There are also Running Buddy pouches for cell phones. I have one but have not tried it mine much for running… I bought it to wear with pocketless pants.

Great 6 mile hike at Torrey Pines in the late afternoon yesterday. The coast was a bit overcast and cool and there were not that many people around. Went into the golf course pro shop after to pick up some US Open 2021 gear.

We went down the coast for a few days vacation. Yesterday, Thursday, I took the day off from exercise, but today I put on the weight vest (yes I brought it with me, easy to pack) and did a “Murph.” I didn’t bring my barbell on this trip and there aren’t any gyms nearby.

So…about 65 minutes later, all done. My time wasn’t critical to me, since I had to use the local park’s playground equipment and I often had to share it with the kids that got there early AM too. Much to my surprise.

Today was a 9 mile run. Just me and my friend who is doing MCM with me. It was a good run- we were happy with our pace and felt good, I think the interval training on Wednesday evenings is paying off!

Good job on the 9 mile run!

Today I did 9km … a lot for me. The nice thing was I woke early and got on the trail at 6:15am, 57 degrees and overcast. My 5k time today was 5 minutes faster than Thurs 5k, where I had to wait until the 7am rainstorm (unusual here) had passed … it was hot, sunny and humid-ish at 8:30am. So today I was delighted with the weather and did a slower 4k “bonus”.

I missed a couple of days of exercise this week, but I tried to make up for it towards the end of the week.
Yesterday we rode maybe 27 outside. Today I rode 18 inside, did 4000m rowing, and did 2 miles on the elliptical.

That’s great. I think 14 miles is my record bike ride, back when the kids were young. Hubby deserves more credit since he had the younger kid on a trail-a-bike. The route was from Glenwood Springs to to Hanging Lake (and back), lots of hills. Extra perk was waving at all of the rafters on the river.

Another less than great week. TBH-- it was really hot and gross the 1st part of the week so it was hard to get motivated. I had a good day yesterday (22K steps) from playing and then walking around to/from stadium to watch soccer

45 miles on our bikes today. We were hoping to get food as part of our trip, but almost all of the restaurants in our destination were closed for the 4th. I expected it would be the opposite. Fortunately we brought some bars with us.

We are having a fabulous day. The weather is perfect. H and I walked to Theodore Roosevelt island this morning. I’ve never been and wanted to go. Then we walked around the dulles smithsonian and saw the X-wing fighter! Very geeked out. And now we are walking through georgetown and will watch the fireworks from the bridge before crashing. Already over 15,000 steps for the day. I am very glad we came. Much better than being bored at home

Sounds like you’re having a great time. I hope the fireworks in DC were nice this year.
I did 29 miles on my bike with a friend today. Very slow, and we stopped to split a bagel half way, but we got it done.

Weekly check-in. I’m still laying off the AT/running, though I did add in some stairmonster sessions this week to help break up the monotony of the bike. But I also scrapped my plan for Hammer & Chisel as it had too much jumping in their workouts. So now I feel a bit aimless especially with 3 (now 2) weeks until vacation. I started back with some of the more old school lifting videos this week and I’ll think I’ll make a hybrid of P90X and Body Beast for the next 2 weeks.

Anyhow… today I did a chest & tris workout and I did it at PF! I only have up to 40 pound hexagonal DBs at home. I’m too lazy to mess with the plated ones since H and the Ss have them set up much higher. My first bench set was a slow 6 count down/6 count up for 15 reps using the 40s. Then the 45s were all taken (This is the benefit of lifting at home! No sharing! I don’t play well with others), so I got out the 50s. I did a set of 8 followed by a set of 6. I was very pleased. Benching is my strongest lift though. Rest of the workout was good too. Tomorrow will just be cardio and yoga. And I get off at 1pm. Yay for short Fridays!

I’ve been fairly lazy on the running this month since it’s hard to get up early enough to beat the heat. Also we have other stuff going on (painting the master bedrooom… bout time after 28 years in the house). Just checked MapMyRun, and I did run 19k in July (including one 9k day)… oh and a 6k bike ride and some short fitness videos. So I have to remind myself that in comparison to five years ago when I did almost zero exercise, this is progress.

Much better week-- i hit my step goal every day but one. Playing soccer this AM and then walking to/from Metro and to/from stadium pushed me to just over 20K steps for the day
