Yes! There are always times when we are busy but looking at the big picture can remind us of how far we have come and how much we are doing overall. You are doing great @Colorado_mom
A new shoe purchase. I love new shoes.
In my never-ending quest to find a shoe that can be a functional fitness training shoe as well as a running shoe, I went a notch down to a “barefoot” running shoe, but not the Vibrams, which I can’t “do” aesthetically. I bought some Vivo’s.
My previous pair of both functional fitness/running shoe was slanted more towards a running shoe than a lifter, where I need a shoe that feels flat and connected to the ground.
I took them (Vivo’s) out for 5K “spin” yesterday. Nearing the 1 mile mark, I nearly gave up on them, but once I got used to them at about the mile mark, they started to click for me. But short distance only. I’m not wearing them for any 10K’s or halves though. As a lifter, they were just what I need.
I think they look “chic.” Older D said they were ugly.
Just a 5K yesterday plus some oblique crunches and RDL’s.
It’s great you found shoes you like. But it would be OK to have two pair of new shoes, one for lifting and one for running. But perhaps that is a logistic pain.
I somehow gave myself a minor sore back, I think from lifting a box into the trunk (in a hurry, trying to make sure that hubby prone to bad back did not do it). Will wait til next week to run again, assuming I bounce back quickly.
I have no issue using two pairs of shoes, one for lifting and one (or more) for running. But with functional training, a HIIT could often consist of 400m (or 1 mile runs for Murph) sprints, along with weightlifting and other movements like some type of jumps.
It’s those combinations of exercises where a really good dual purpose shoe would be awesome. And I’ve tried Nike Metcon’s and Reebok Nano’s.
Hope your back is ok @Colorado_mom
I missed 3 days of exercise this week - more than I’ve missed since I retired in March (and maybe more than since COVID started).
I rode my bike for 2 hours/37 miles last night, and I will ride again this morning, but I likely won’t have time for another 2 hours today.
Hey - maybe I should count housework as exercise. I’ve done a fair amount of that
@1214mom house definitely counts!
10 mile long run today. It was hot, humid and slow. But it’s done. We took a quick break to talk with another group of runners who are also training for their first MCM. I told them about the MCM facebook group (full of useful info. especially for us first timers).
Sure… count housework as exercise. I log some of that (when I actually do some, which is not as often as it should be) and a lot of gardening activity into MyNetDiary app. It burns a few calories, and it definitely works different muscles from running.
My back is mostly doing OK now. Did some gardening and housework today in prep for company. We cooked a huge batch of cassoloulet (French casserole of meats, beans, onions etc), and I did make hubby handle the heavy dish/contents/lid. We also had tapas buffet appetizer, wine and dessert, so hopefully I will get a chance to run next week!

Remind me… MCM =? Is it (gasp) a marathon?
Marine Corp Marathon
Hey, I’m back from vacay and am finally checking in. I closed my Apple Watch rings every day while gone, though I did a real workout only a couple of times. I did a lot of walking. Then, when I got home, dh and I spent five days putting in a patio. Hard work.
Notice I buried the lead about gaining weight while on vacation? Only two-three pounds, but all in my gut, it seems.
Glad you had a nice vacay. Sometimes the tradeoff is minor weight gain. In the summer heat, probably it will be gone soon.
Welcome back. Did you go someplace fun? Sounds like you’ve been getting lots of exercise even back home. Hopefully those couple of pounds will go away soon.
I’ve just been doing my thing - mostly riding either my indoor or outdoor bike each day. Some stretching and low poundage weights occasionally, but not as often as I should be doing those things.
11 mile training run this morning. Today was a good day. Yes, it was hot and humid (even at 6:30 AM), but my friend and I kept a good pace (for us) and I am counting it as a good day.
Went to the Upper Midwest. My first time in Wisconsin.
I’m 3 days away from vacation. We will be gone 10 days have 3 major hiking days planed–Mt Washington in NH, hopefully Mt Katahdin (need to get lucky on parking pass) and Gulf Hagas. If Kathadin falls through we will do another hike in Baxter.
Sounds great, @jmnva06 - have fun!
We will just miss each other. We should be in Baxter on Friday and leaving bright and early Saturday. Have fun!!!
YAY - I got a weather sweet spot for getting back to running this morn. Went at 6:45am, at 58 degrees with mostly overcast skies. Ran for 5k on our lovely local lake trail… would have walked a while longer, but OOPS got a text reminder about my 9am dentist appt.
Looking back at MapMyRun, my last run was July 12th. In the meantime I’ve done a lot of gardening and some house-pack help for friends and 2 bike rides and a few short fitness videos. But I really do need to work on walking if the heat deters me from running.
