If you don’t have a wall to graze like that, then the act of just tossing it in the air and catching it is fine too.
Congrats on quitting Diet Coke.

I had a DC habit too. I found having sparkling water has helped me totally stop. I haven’t had a DC in nearly 11 months now. I mostly drink plain sparkling but my favorite flavored brand is Spindrift.
Spendrift is awesome. I’ve been a seltzer water for decades, but just found out about Spendrift during the holidays last year. It’s not cheap, but it’s so good.
Checking in on the exercise front - I continue to exercise at least an hour almost every day, usually more than an hour. Today I did 18 miles on my spin bike, and 30 minutes/6000m rowing. Rowing is hard for me, but I try to do it 3 days a week. Yesterday I walked with 2 separate friends, and each walk was over 4 miles. I was well over 10 miles on my watch by bedtime.
It’s been 5 years, 9 months and 29 days since I had a cold Pepsi. The first six months were really hard. I literally woke up during the night craving a soda. Sometimes I still crave one. I drank 1-2/day.
My standing desk interview with work occupational health has been completed and he’s recommended the purchase. Crossing my fingers that it goes through.
I did a small hike of a mile on Saturday. By myself, with only the dog, in an extremely isolated preserve I’d never been to before. Halfway on the loop, I looked down and there was a very obvious bear paw print in the mud. At the end of the hike, I heard voices and three beefy dudes came out a few yards behind me.
All in all, I think I’ll stick to areas I know better, or at least areas with more people. It was a bit of a nerve-wracking experience. My dog has hurled herself at a bear before, to protect her people; she ended up in the bear’s jaws and is very lucky she’s still alive. I was dreading another encounter!
No joy on finding people to walk with around my neighborhood. I may have to resort to an exercise bike. Have almost never used one, but there’s a very basic one in my house basement from kid hand-me-downs. Any tips?
Oh, forgot! Got a great mocktail recipe from a friend: It’s basically equal parts grapefruit juice, lime juice (maybe add a bit more lime juice, to taste) and agave syrup, a pinch of sea salt, shaken in ice, then poured and topped off with however much club soda you want. It’s a pretty great soda substitute.
Gatormama - the only way I’ve been able to bribe myself to use an exercise bike at home is to listen to music/podcasts/radio and sometimes start while drinking a cup of coffee.
Thanks for the suggestion need to pull mine out now that it’s darker earlier and colder!
@Gatormama highly recommend NOT going on an isolated hike! Do you have city or county parks in your area where you can park and walk the dog? You’ll get your walk in and at least see other people out doing the same.
What kind of bike to you have? Foot action only or do the arms move? Can you change the tension? Adjust the seat?
Best tip: Get on it! No game plan needed other than wear loose comfortable clothing. Have some entertainment (music, tv or podcast). Set a timer for a reasonable amount of time for you and don’t cop out on it - bike until the timer goes off! 15 minutes is maybe a good starting point.
Hope your standing desk comes through!
Basic bike, no arm movement, and I haven’t a clue about what else it can do. I shall inquire of the children.
But thanks for the suggestions - I will be working to get that together!
So, I have officially moved my home gym into my bedroom. I went to Tractor Supply as @sushiritto suggested, but I went with another kind of pad. It’s not as thick but a little longer. Thanks for the idea to look there!
On week two of no Diet Coke. Amazingly, haven’t missed it and didn’t get headaches or feel particularly lethargic. I have to admit that seeing how easy it was this time makes me feel like I might have one every now and then … and certainly my Jack Daniels and Coke.
I also am working on the biggest missing piece in terms of my health – not eating my feelings. Send good thoughts to dh, who is having to deal with me all in my feels rather than channeling all those feelings into a bag of Fritos. I’m on week three of this and only really caved once. I envy people who have a normal relationship with food.
Checking in on @ClassicMom98? Haven’t heard from you and how you’re healing.
Thanks. I’m doing ok. Leg is being temperamental but I had an ah ha Moment over the weekend. I’m pretty sure it’s all stemming from serious knots in my glute. I worked them out and instant relief. It’ll take a bit more but still good to know. I’m still pretty irked about the new gym schedule though.
I hit a big squat PR (2.5 kgs or 5.5 lbs) this evening, beating my “meet record” squat from about a month ago. And I still had more room left in the tank too.
My HIIT was short and sweet. It took me 8:45 to do the prescribed number of thrusters and calories on the air bike.
We did two strenuous hikes in a row, in Denver altitude plus, and I felt great. We did 10 miles the first day and 8 the second. Day 1 was considered at moderate trail but day 2, a difficult trail. H, who considers himself very fir, can’t walk down the stairs without pain. D and I could have kept going
yikes I hope your H feels better!!!
Really feeling the colder weather set in - we never seem to get enough of that fall or spring “60” weather!
Been keeping up with lots of walking and a daily something or other of sweaty exercise for at least 30 minutes.
Good job on the hikes! We’ve lived in CO a few decades, and I’ve never hiked more than a few miles. (I probably could, but it’s not hubby’s thing.)
@abasket - Ah yes, I adore the 60 degree weather for running. We get a fair amount of that here in CO, and I love being retired with flexibility to cherry pick the best weather opportunities.
Just checking in. Things are still on the same general schedule of coaching multiple times per week and walking to dinner a couple of nights a week. I’m hitting my step goal 4-5 times per week and my activity goal 5+ days.
Soccer finishes up this week so evening walks will be back on the agenda.
On the weight loss front, I’m still sort of stalled.
Thinking of you @FallGirl hope Taper Madness isn’t hitting you too hard. How many times have you checked the weather forecast?
@ClassicMom98 - Thanks for thinking about me. I’ve been keeping pretty busy, but yes, obsessivly checking the forecast
What I hope to be doing at 105 years old.
