Fitness, Nutrition and Health- All Welcome (Hardcore and “Light”)

How’s it going, @Gatormama ?

My standing desk arrived last night and we’ll assemble it this weekend. Thanks for inquiring!
I’m no closer to anything else exercise-wise, but in my defense we did have house guests all week.
It gets cold this weekend. I might dust off the bike!

Still doing my thing - walking or bike riding (mostly biking indoors but did get out a time or two recently) most every day. Doing the rower 4,000m/20 minutes 3 x a week. Still don’t like rowing, but I’ve kept up the 3 x a week. I’ve also been doing more light weights lately.

I ran my first marathon yesterday at age 64. This from the “uncoordinated” “unathletic” kid who just started running in 2016. Even a year ago this was not in the plans.

@ClassicMom98 pretty well. Doing a yoga class shortly to stretch a bit. Just a little soreness in my hip and thigh area.

AWESOME accomplishment. You’re my hero!
I am so impressed that just 5 years ago you weren’t running at all, and now a marathon. YOU GO GIRL!!!

Congrats. I guess you really are a Fall Girl … nice season to run. But a marathon - WOW!

Yes, but can you run and chew gum at the same time. That’s coordination. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Wonderful achievement. A celebration is in order.

My standing desk is in place and yesterday I worked with 33% standing, 66% sitting, which is what the occupational health dude at work recommended. Does that sound reasonable? It was good, though I was actually a bit stiff by the end of the shift, probably b/c I’m not used to standing that much. I did try to move around on my feet as much as I could.
And and and - I have an appointment at a local personal trainer/fitness studio on Wednesday. I like that it’s small, not a huge gym with questionable sanitation, not a chain with long-term commitments/memberships etc.

This place has one on one and group sessions and I think I can afford a couple a week - I really need the accountability and scheduling and paying to keep me on track. Otherwise I can find a million reasons not to do something.

What good progress in a couple of areas. Good luck in your journey.

Quick long update. Running is definitely coming back. I’m taking it slowly and really trying to work hard this time on addressing my (oh so many) deficiencies. That’s one of my goals for my “50 weeks to 50” quest: Improving my mobility and posture.

As for the 50 to 50 quest… It hasn’t been hard to do SOMETHING new each week. Most weeks I’ve tried a new recipe or we’ve eaten somewhere different - not hard if you travel out of town! But it can even be as simple as trying a new seasoning packet or type of beans in a recipe. But some items aren’t just a one and done type thing. More like a project.

My lifting is still going, but I’m in limbo land at the moment. I decided for Xmas to buy a Jeff Cavliere program and start that after New Year’s. I’m excited about it. I’ve done his freebie ab workouts for years and often watch his videos. I’m also working a very difficult (for me) yoga progression with the goal of getting it by my 50th bday. We shall see. It may be impossible, but I’m trying and have made a little progress even if everyone at the gym looks at me like I’m a complete weirdo.

Health - I put on my big girl pants and went to the dentist and lady doctor. Dentist found part of a filling gone and will fill that in 2 weeks. Lady doctor - well, my body isn’t doing what most people’s do at this point, so I got an endometrial biopsy to see if it’s cancer. Results probably after Thanksgiving weekend. Doc feels like it’s just the IUD, but it’s to put my mind at ease. Joy. Also got the mammo done. Is it sad that I’d rather have 10 of those done vs getting my teeth cleaned? I’d rather get a filling than my teeth cleaned. I’d rather do just about anything than get my teeth cleaned.

Mental - I’m not sure if this fits, but I started another big project a month ago. (oh, in addition to learning German!) My mom has digitized all of our old audio and video tapes and put them on her website. It’s inspired me to play again. I want to relearn one piece well again and decided on Beethoven’s 32 variations on an original theme in C Minor. Currently, I’m doing it in secret - on my lunch breaks at home. My piano is a 45 year old upright that hasn’t been tuned in almost 30 years after 3 moves. It’s not bad all things considering. I have even broken out the elementary counting (“huckleberry, chocolate, two eighths, TA!”), working in rhythms and even got out the metronome last week. That 45 year old thing still works and I find it oddly comforting and enjoyable to use. I must have gone mental in my old age. I have been pleased at how fast it’s coming back after almost 30 years, but I have a long ways to go. And I find that it’s much harder to read the music with my monovision! Argh! And I’m not sure what I’ll do when I’m satisfied with it. I’d like to at least play it for my mom.

Wow - you’re tackling a lot. Good for you. Remind us of when you turn 50 again? Hopefully you’ll feel much better after getting the “body maintenance” tasks done. Sending positive thoughts about the gyno stuff. We all have our hang ups. I don’t mind cleanings, at all, but I HATE getting fillings and other work done. I had to have a crown this year and I’ll likely need another next year.
Keep up the good work!
