@FallGirl You have definitely had a tough few months. I hope all is getting back to normal for you.
I literally almost faceplanted this morning just trying to hop (lift my legs) over our dog gate this AM. I have a nice deep long scratch on my right leg to remind me.
And then last week I finally took the time to learn how to climb a rope using my legs, real actual techinique, since I’ve always just used only arms/upper body. I was wearing running (short) socks, no shin coverage, and I got a huge abrasion from the rope, which is still healing, even with bandaids being applied every day. Same right leg. My right leg doesn’t look so good right now.
Anyway, enough of my “medical” issues. I’m still training almost everyday, but no PR’s or anything special to report. I did get a compliment on my squat depth yesterday from the 22-year old male who squats 640 lbs. So, that was nice.
This picture is looking back along the Long Walk in Windsor towards the castle from the George III monument. Round trip distance just over 5.4 miles. Toss in exploring the castle and we had a 10 mile day. This was our travel day an we arrived in England at 7:30 am and were on only a couple of hours of sleep. We were both out by 7pm
Wow Jim, it’s amazing that you don’t have jet lag, I don’t think I can do that. But walking is a must next year, I’ve just booked my 2 weeks at the Lake District and now looking at the local restaurant reviews, the food pictures are just so exciting to look at, I must do a lot of exercise otherwise I might gain weight, lol.
Anyway today I went for 30 minutes swimming, I had to do it becauseI ate a huge hamburger with tasty fries later for lunch. Let’s hope the weight stays constant.
@DrGoogle123. We were both pretty wiped out functioning on only a couple of hours of sleep on the plane. We just powered through as long as possible to try and reset our clocks.
Today was our guided tour of Jane Austen sites. Picture is of the house she lived in when she wrote most of books.
I’ve got no fancy pictures to share of my fitness on vacation. I didn’t do much, only two 6 mile runs on a not very scenic, but still nostalgic trail. We used to bike on the W&OD-Custis-Mt. Vernon Trail when I was growing up, sometimes going 50-60 miles. And once when I was 18, I ran 40 miles on the W&OD-Custis trail to DC from my workplace (and back). I did it on one of the hottest days of the year with just a fanny pack, water bottle, a college ID, $10 and a credit card. I only stopped to refill my water bottle and buy a pack of M&Ms in Arlington at a drug store. The same drug store we often pass now. So, it was sort of nice from that standpoint. (Clearly, I was still a dumb kid back then!)
I started the 80 day obsession yesterday with my sister. It will be good for her. She has lost a lot of strength over the past few years. It’ll be good for me too, but I have to get used to the 60 min lifting workout. Most of mine have been 30-45 min. Can’t piddlefart as long in the mornings. Boo.
I hate to say it’s good to be back at work. I do NOT do well coming home from vacations, and this one was been really rough. Having yesterday was off, but with nothing to do but clean the house and look at each other wasn’t very good for my mental state. We did see the new Jurassic Park movie which did help. Routine helps me quite a bit.
For purposes of this group, the highlight of the would be the just north of 30k steps (roughly 12 miles) covered today. We did an amazing walk along River Clyde Walkway, visited the Necropolis and Riverside Museum. We ended the day with a distillery tour which included a whiskey and chocolate pairing/tasting
Day 3 - Cardio Core. I always skip this one and do my own cardio plus core. 60 min run followed by 30 min on the bike doing some cheesy 40 sec stand up intervals every ~3 min. Sometimes I do the core portion from the video, but today I did a different one (harder and didn’t need sliders).
Some tentative optimism… H’s hip flexors have been hurting him for years. Every now and then, I gently suggest PT, but his general rule of thumb is to ignore the problem until it goes away. But it’s gotten worse to the point where he squats/deadlifts and then is crippled until the next workout. He looks like an old man walking. After hobbling through vacation, he admitted he needs to do something before our trip to Vienna. He got in with my really smart knee PT yesterday. A lot is due to his flat feet and one leg is also 0.5" shorter than the other. She did her thing and taped him up, and he had NO pain yesterday. I know from experience it’ll take time to make it more permanent, but hopefully in the future he’ll want to go hiking with me again. I didn’t even dare ask this past year. He is also looking at orthotics and different non-generic athletic shoes.
My husband also had some problem with his knee yesterday, he thought it’s his knee, but it’s really the muscle in the back of the knee so I gave him some deep massage with Tiger Balm and today his knee is better, not 100% but it’s definitely much better.
Your post inspired me, even though am on the “light” end of exercisers. Yesterday I started again with Fitness Blender online video arms workout.
It is a short/easy routine, and over the winter I had worked my way up to new 5lb weights. Then I stopped when I had some hand/thumb tingly stuff… perhaps due to gardening and planting activities, which I was not gonna stop. All seems OK now, so I went back to the arms video yesterday. Went back to wimpy 1lb weights - just wanted to get started again gently.
My arms/shoulders are getting better, but the left fingers still hurt when I squeeze them. I think old injuries take a long time to rehab or heal, but I did manage to get my left leg back to normal. And I only do light exercises on the floor.
But it’s getting hotter now and I can’t do a lot of gardening until much later so I will do floor exercise much earlier, in the afternoon instead of in the evening.
Thanks - great hint! I have used different kinds of bands at fitness classes at work, but those look much better. Might need to order for our upcoming vacation
OK - so we got a new TV and have moved to the 21st century. I assume I can get on-line classes free in various places? I think I want some easy yoga and/or core routines. Any suggestions? We currently have Verizon fios, Netflix and amazon prime, but I think YouTube has lots of free things? I’m kind of clueless in this area…
TIA
